Reaching out on here and have name changed.
A couple of days ago I had a mild bout of diarrhoea. Probably went 4/5 times over 2/3 hours. By the next morning it had gone, but I'm now very uncomfortable. I feel as if I need to break wind or go to the loo but there is only a watery substance and it is leaking every half hour or so, or when I do break wind. It's not horrific, no one else would be aware of it (I don't think!) . I have a cramping pain in my lower abdomen. I don't think I've been to the loo properly since but when I try to go am passing very small pieces of matter. No blood as far as I can see.
Any advice would be very welcome!

Have you been eating normally since it started? If so where’s all the food ‘going’? Or perhaps you haven’t had normal appetite

RubyFrench · 20/02/2022 13:47

Bloody hell, I didn't realise it was a symptom of covid!
Regarding appetite, I'm never off my food! And I've been wondering where it's going. If I make it till 2.08 without incident, it's definitely improving.
No antibiotics.
Thanks ever so much for your responses.

I had a very similar thing when I was fairly stressed with planning my wedding. Had to keep going dashing the loo, lots of air and mucusy poo. I assumed it was a bout of IBS but apologies to sufferers if that doesn’t sound correct. It went away after about 2 weeks and I’ve not had it since.

Helenahandkart · 20/02/2022 13:58

I had a similar thing. It went on for about two weeks. At some point I went to the GP and all they did was prescribe me Imodium.
It’s probably just a mild dose of food poisoning or a stomach bug.
Stay hydrated and wait it out.

Obviously if it goes on for a long time then you need medical help, but it’s far too soon to be panicking about it.

Sounds like your bowel lining has become inflamed from over-use. It needs a chance to calm down. When it happens the lining often produces a mucous to try to protect itself but you just poo it out so to speak because your bowel is over-stimulated. Try some stuff to stop diarrhoea which will slow it all down.

The other thing that might help is Buscopan- you can get it from a chemist and it is designed for abdominal discomfort. If there us no improvement within 24 hours I would ask fir a telephone appt with GP.

RubyFrench · 20/02/2022 14:14

Thanks all. I will take it easy for the rest of the day, I do have some Buscopan so I might give that a whirl. The pain is manageable, no worse than a niggly period pain but it's the other things which is so awful!
I know it's not sensible to expect medical advice from the net but honestly your thoughts and reassurance (and telling me to contact the doc) have been great.

Hello all, I spoke to the GP today. I am still not quite right, although a lot better. I just thought if I need to go into the system, I’d rather go in this week than wait until next. He asked me questions that I think were aimed at working out if I have a blockage, possible cancer etc. he seems to have some down on probable gastro bug. Tracing back, I’m not quite on day 10 and they would usually expect improvement jn 10-14 days (I’d been thinking 2-3 days, I dint get bugs very often thank goodness!). He was lovely and very reassuring, told be to get straight back in contact immediately if I’m worried.
I hate it when Ops don’t update but also wanted to thank everyone who commented and offered advice/reassurance.
Have a lovely evening!

I had a long lasting tummy bug and I found the most effective thing was to eat nothing at all for 24 hours. Lots of fluids/dioralyte but no food. Then start slowly with bland things.

That seemed to give my tummy a chance to calm down. I hope you feel better soon.
