Can you have a uti/ kidney infection without classic symptoms?

I have had a stiff/ sore back all day and now it feels almost as if my insides are just sore and bruised including my lower belly and back. Most of the soreness is in my mid back around my waist or just above - its actually really hard to pinpoint where it is coming from it just feels like my general mid section is bruised and sore.

It isnt a terrible pain its more of a dull ache but im starting to think it may be a uti or kidney problem?

The thing is i have no symptoms you would normal think of for a uti so im wondering what to do!

If it is still hurting tomorrow i was thinking of sending a message on e consult to my gp? I dont want to over react to what is probably nothing but its making me a little upset now!

UTI - older people who suddenly present with confusion are immediately tested for UTI. When I feel I have pulled a muscle in my back and feel shivery, I know I have a UTI.

I never present with the classic UTI symptoms. I always start with a day of headaches and then normally I get to a point where I feel like I'm going to pass out, and I get an ache around usually one kidney. I've never had frequency of urine or burning sensation.

Late last year I went to my GP about pounding heart, breathlessness and aching legs for no reason at all. I was immediately sent to the lab next door for an ECG. Referrals were made for X-ray and echocardiogram. The last thing the GP did was test my urine on the spot for a UTI - I had one. No symptoms at all.

Play safe and see your GP.

I am on anti biotics for my 4th in 4 months (waiting for kidney stone scan). I always get really tired and teary and wonder what’s wrong with me and then get a sharp pain in my back and know it’s a UTI! I have dip sticks at home (can buy them off Amazon) so test and find blood in urine which always means the phone conversation with dr is easier as I’ve done my own testing. I also get hot/cold shivers. Never stinging wee which seems to be the most common symptom!

I dont get the usual symptoms either, pain in one side which can either be constipation or a kidney infection for me, if I then get a funny tummy or vomit then I know its a kidney infection. Have also had the same with just back ache as well and ended up in hospital puking up faeces as I ignored it as just a sore back, so yes do seek to get a wee sample dipped to be sure

I will email the doctor is the morning and try to get some sleep tonight. I have to take my eldest daughter to the surgery tomorrow to get some blood test - she is currently on antibiotics for pneumonia perhaps they will be able to fit me in.

Interesting about the aching legs - I hadn’t connected that. It happens every time

echt · 15/02/2022 20:30

Should say I'm in Australia, where you can see doctors face-to-face.

Walkingandtalking · 15/02/2022 20:31

Aching legs is that stiffness like if you have been on a really long walk? Because i have had that today Blush

if that's my aching legs, they were related to what has turned out to be a potential heart problem.
Walkingandtalking · 15/02/2022 20:35

I dont have a racing heart or anything but i already take medication to slow it so im not sure if that would still be effective if i had an infection? I take ivabradine.

Ah. I’ve had a recent ecg and all was ok so hopefully not that! Lucky you having face to face in Australia. Can’t ever see it coming back here. I hate trying to communicate on phone without it eye contact or raport with the person I’m trying to describe by symptoms to

ViceLikeBlip · 15/02/2022 20:43

I always get mote typical UTI symptoms (constant desperate need to pee but only manage a few drops, burning pain, blood when wiping), but a weird, isolated back ache was one of my main covid symptoms.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/02/2022 20:55

I had similar recently and it turned out to be Covid.

SplashinginPuddles1 · 15/02/2022 21:03

Also wondering if it could be Covid. Omicron can settle in the digestive system apparently, won’t show on a lateral flow and temperature will be normal.

Happyharry2003 · 15/02/2022 21:36

I’ve only just had it (two weeks ago)
