Dsis: lump found in second breast, following mastectomy five years ago

As the above says, my lovely sister had her five year check up today, and rather than getting the all-clear, she was told that they had found a 2cm lump in her untreated breast. This was found by palpation, so obviously ultrasound etc are now going to follow.
Wondering if anyone out there has any experience and words of optimism on this? Many thanks

In a similar position 6 years down the line but not breast. Waiting on results - 1 week to go before I know. Feeling surprisingly resilient and if it's come back, well, I've got through it once, I'll get through it again. Nothing you can say or do, just be her sister.

Hope results all come back okay.

Sorry, this must be such a worry for you. I’m afraid no one here can tell you one way or another. I hope she gets her results back soon.

Thank you all for replying. And you are right, having been through this once, she is resilient and so are we. I appreciate everyone’s kind words.

My mother had a mastectomy over 20 years ago and had a new lump in the other breast about 4 years ago. It was cancerous but caught early so surgery was successful. My understanding is that if you have had it once you are (unfairly) more likely to have it again - hoping your sister has the best outcome.
