I have this... I've always assumed it was because of varicose veins or something. It just kills if someone pokes my upper arm for example (lower arms, thighs and torso don't hurt) or if I walk past something and slightly knock my lower leg.

Been like this for years, no idea what it is really, could be circulation, mine is crap, blue nails etc.

sounds like allodynia?

though know no more than that i am afraid.

melsy · 02/01/2008 09:40

Sounds very similar to me, Ive have been told its blocked lymph nodes/glands, which can be treated by a vacuum thing in beauticians clinics. I had a very painful massage on my legs once and the women doing it said this was my problem.

psychomum5 · 02/01/2008 09:46

I suffer this too.......and just thought I was weird as no-one else seems to that I know of in RL.

I aslo go really wierd and sick, if not faint right out, if I stubb my toes!!

also suffer from raynauds syndrome (where your hands and feet have exagerated reactions to the cold IE, my hands go blue and then white really quickly, then bright red and hurt like hell when warming up, and I suffer chilblaines on my feet too.), and also have 'restless' legs, whee my legs feel really twitchy at night and I have to stretch/shake/rub them etc.

but like I say, I am odd and wierd apparently!

Slarty, allodynia sounds interesting. Maybe it's that, yorkshire.

ok.....google allodynia, and seemed to spout lots of jargon unrelated to 'sore muscles', but it did give another term that I then went to find.....

hyperalgesia (hī'pər-al-jē'zē-ə)
n
A greater-than-normal sensitivity to pain that may result from a painful stimulus or a lowered pain threshold.

found this in answers.com. sounds more like me, so maybe an answer to you too??

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 02/01/2008 15:05

psychomum, oddly, I have raynauds too (of the nipple though, not fingers and toes- when I get cold my nipples can go white and excruciatingly painful, it's due to the small capillaries in the extremities spasming so the blood is squeezed away from the toe/finger/nip in question iirc)

So maybe it IS circulation related, as raynauds can be treated with Nifedipine, a medication which works by 'opening up' the small blood vessels, and helping circulation.

ahhhh......my circulation is truly knackered!!!

if I stand still in the shower for too long, (or even when I used to work in a chip shop as a teen and that is a hot place!), my leg go oddd and blotchy and get an orange tinge to some blotches, purple to other[crazy face]!

and yourkshire....I too at times have a high pain threshhold, others very low.....depends on the pain me thinks.

labour was fairly easy IMO....got by on just gas n air with the girls, and no pain releif with the boys..(altho I did swear lots with the boys), yet with toes, like I said before, I alwost faint.

ooh, and paper cuts.....CANNOT cope with them,, yet yesterday had somehow managed to cut my thumb and scrape it too, and onl notice when I dripped blood, and still never hurt!!!

odd and weird I tell ya, I am odd and weird
