SPOTS ON A 6 MONTH OLD HELP!!!!

MrsGokWan · 01/01/2008 17:40

Hi Ladies,

My 6 month old has been unwell for a few days. I put it down to teething (which he is!) He's had a temperature, been feeding off me like a demon but off solids, moany and crying. He developed what I thought was a heat rash yesterday but it has got worse even with no clothes off and a lot of them look like 'proper' adult spots now.

Any one got any ideas what it could be?

I saw a friend and her baby while out today - her baby (8 months?) had a rash/spots across the face, which she said was a teething rash. Could this be the same?

MrsGokWan · 01/01/2008 18:34

I thought of that but it is over his whole body, even hands and feet. Also when you run your hands over him you can feel them, a lot seem to have pimple like tops. He has had slight rash on his face with teething as well. This just seems to be more.

You'd think with 3 I'd be able to recognise it but I haven't a clue.

Sorry I'm a first time mum to a 6m old, so no experience really to help you with. Hope all is well though.

Have you done the glass test and made sure the rash disappears if you press a glass on to it? Is he ok looking at light? Does he appear to have a stiff or painful neck?

It could well be a viral rash but you should get him checked out.

MrsGokWan · 01/01/2008 21:25

Definatly not meningitis.

He had a viral infection at the beginning of December which turned into a very horrible bacterial infection. It cleared up just before Christmas and now we are faced with this.

Will monitor him over night and ring the Drs in the morning I think.

Oh the poor thing - that's tough. The only other thing that springs to mind is hand foot and mouth virus? Does he have any mouth ulcers?

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 01/01/2008 21:43

I hope he has a good night's rest tonight and is on the up from tomorrow.

Thanks very much for the post PTIYPASI. Have tryed to look in his mouth but he won't let me. Have run a finger round and cant feel anything.

Had another bad night last night. He just slept in a vest as he was that warm.

Have a Dr's appointment at 3.30 so we will see what he says.

Are the spots turning into smaller raised bumps with a bit of yellowy pus? If so could be chicken pox? Best to get it checked out with the doctor though.

How is he now and how did you get on at the doctors?

My LO is also suffering and has been poorly for the past week. She's also currently learning to sleep on her front so is up either feeling sorry for herself or has got herself stuck or wedged in the cot. Her breath smells so badly - the GP has declared her 'viral'. I hate it when they're sick
