Sudden loss of hearing caused by medication

I have developed D Fib and am on bisipholol and recently the cardiologist prescribed diuretics. After 4 tabs I had a sudden loss of hearing — happened during the night and I thought the tablet I was listening to a podcast on had developed a fault. Turns out I’d lost a lot of hearing in my right ear and 6 days later this persists. There is periodically an unpleasant loud popping noise and my hearing improves but only for a short while. My left ear has tinnitus with associated loss of hearing that started about 10 years ago.
NHS site etc online says loss of hearing can be a side effect of the diuretic and this can be permanent. GP says he’ll made a referral to ENT but didn’t sound convinced about the connection.
Has anyone out there on mumsnet experienced anything similar?
BTW I stopped the diuretic pills immediately — fluid retention has never been a significant problem in my opinion. Hi
