Bumping his head... loads

I'm sure this has come up many times before but DS is constantly banging his head (hard) through the fact that he's just started to walk and has a complete lack of self preservation. He bumps his noggin at least 2 to 3 times a day. It's not even something that can be avoided because it just happens out of no where ie: trips suddenly, opens the door against his head, headbutts our teeth (ouch) etc.

I hate it and is scares the crap out of me everytime I hear the familiar thump on the kitchen tiles.

Anyone know of any long term adverse problems caused by this or assoicated problems or am I being too fretful?

From the day he crawled my DS constantly bumped - he seemed to lead with his head. In every photo we have of him as a crawler and toddler he seems to have a bruise on his forehead. It gradually stopped as he got more co-ordinated and controlled, and he's now one of the brightest kids in his class (or so his teacher says) so it obviously didn't do him any harm.

Toddlers are pretty tough creatures, and I expect you'll find the same as we did, that as he gets more control he'll gradually stop doing it.

My ds is exactly the same, especially as he's also started temper trantrums where he thrashes around ALWAYS finds a handy surface to bang his head.
Do you think all parents have dental damage from the toothy headbuts?

Oh yeah, the tantrums . He wacked his head so hard the other day in one of these tantrums, I was checking his pupils afterwards!!

Don't think you have much to worry about. Ds2 split his head open twice (requiring gluing at A&E) and broke his leg all in the space of 5 months when he was about 16-21 months old. He is a gifted child at school now so it didn't do him any harm. Still, I know what you mean about hearing the thump and the scream and thinking here we go again!
