Heel pain, footwear suggestions

I suffer with plantar fasciitis, heel pain, footwear suggestions I've come across are for fit flops and the like but it's way too cold right now and also I really don't like the way they look.
Would insoles be best so I can still wear shoes I have? Or does anyone have any good footwear suggestions?

I remember the pain well! I used heel cushions which helped marginally for a short while. I suffered for about 18 months, following the advice of a physio to regularly stretch it, roll a ball around etc, with no improvement. I finally switched physios and they told me that the muscle in my calf was very tight. She started fortnightly massage on my calf, it was uncomfortable, but 3 months later the pain was gone and has never returned.

I find Keen shoes are best, though not cheap. They have good support and are really comfortable and hard wearing. I wear the presidio ones for general wear, and also have some trainer style, walking boots, and sandals. They last forever. Some Skechers are pretty good too as a cheaper option.
