Contraception

Hiya there, I'm just about to give birth, but thought I'd give this topic some consideration while I still have half a brain cell left!!

I'm looking for a contraceptive that:

  • Doesn't make me put loads of weight on (was on the Microgynon combined pill and put on 2 stone over as many months - took me 2 years to lose it again)

  • Works with being a bit absent minded - i.e. not a pill that needs to be taken every day!

  • Doesn't turn me into an evil person that is horrible to be around (Evra contraceptive patch turned me into a hell-bitch)

It seems like the Mirena coil is the best option, but would it make me put on loads of weight if Microgynon did as well? (contains one of the two hormones that Microgynon does).

Anyone got any advice?

Why not go for an IUD without hormones? I'm very happy with mine.

Okay, that's the option I'm thinking of going for. They have put me on the mini pill with the same hormones as the mirena but I've only just started taking it.

Although, maybe (like me) you won't have the need for the coil for a few months at least.

I was considering the IUD without hormones, but I hear it gives you quite heavy periods, and mine are pretty heavy to start with anyway.

I think I just have to go with the Mirena really and a) hope the weight gain isn't too much b) stop eating like a pig anyway
