So to start things off.
I would like to be less wobbly by our Summer Holiday at the end of June.

Hopefully loose 1lb a week

Going to keep an eye on my diet but exercise will be my main thing.

I will be

walking 5 days a week(4 miles)
I can make 2 of those miles faster as I will just have DS2 in the buggy. So something like a fast walk for 1 mile and a faster walk/jog for the 2nd mile.

keep fit class
on a monday night

Once I am fitter I am going to start walking further whilst DS1 is at school.

What does everyone else plan to do?

Jingly - I posted this on the other thread but thought it was worth a post here too.

Inspirational tale

Many moons ago several of us started a Runners Thread on MN. There's a new one on the go now in Health. One of the founder members was Twink who doesn't post anymore but she was pretty inspirational really as fas as losing weight and getting fit goes....

By Twink on Tue 12-Jul-05 07:15:54
I did my first RFL 3 years ago, so this is my fourth year IYSWIM. A bit of history, apologies to those who've heard it before. After having my daughter, I piled weight on, reaching around 14 stone which is not great at 5'4". I lost a bit on my own then joined the local Rosemary Conley club. They were signing up to do RFL but I felt I couldn't even walk 5k let alone run it so didn't join in but vowed that next year I'd be there. I started going to the gym & walking on the treadmill, gradually increasing the incline until after about 6 months it was as high as possible. Then I started trying to run a bit but on a 0% incline & found it easier than the walking. 3 months before RFL 2002 I followed their training programme and made it round a flat course on the day in 29mins 58 secs. The time was entirely due to my brother promising to double my sponsorship if I completed in under 30 mins After that, as I said earlier, I met my neighbour & we decided to enter a 10k race, then a half marathon & we've just carried on. Now we also do speed work & hill training which helps us to get quicker. At the moment we seem to be beating the ageing process and are still improving. We also keep our weight under control without dieting and I'll never go back to being a 40-a-day smoker, for me RFL has literally been a life-saver.

Last time she posted on the Runners Thread she had just done the London Marathon and was training for a triathlon!

Good luck

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 30/12/2007 18:11

i plan tio start training for a fun run in sept and aim to do the long route, not the short 1mile run.

i may sign up for race for life as well, as that is before the harefield run, and will give me something to aim for.

i do have 5stone+ to lose really as well, so want to lose weight and get fit.

JingleyJen · 30/12/2007 18:12

Hi FTONY
So what are you going to start with? Exercise wise? And when - so that we know when to kick you up the bum!

Hello, I was motivated by the Twink's tale, kindly posted by Saggar and have registered for RFL.

So, my aim is to be less wobbly by the summer. I have a wedding in August and would like to lose at least 28 pounds by then. I will also do the RFL in May/June. I will do this by:

Running/walking following the BUPA plan three times a week
Walking 20 mins each lunch time
Swimming once a week (for relaxation)

oh, and I might skip. Have just opened a cupboard to find my gym kit and my skipping rope fell out of my bag and onto my head. So I might use that occasionally too!

Mummy2CharlotteJean · 30/12/2007 18:56

Just want to hijack and say I think Charlotte Jean is a beautiful name!

Hijack over

jofeb04 · 30/12/2007 19:09

Ohhh.... a thread just for us

I'm planning:
Swimming once a week (when money allows me anyway!)
Pilates class when I can (dh works some evenings!)
Going to the gym - hopefully twice a week
Starting with walks out, following the running plan.

Also buying a bike at the start of February, so going to be using that (perhaps instead of the running - got SPD still) so I've got to be sensible.

Went out for a walk today with dh and dc, was walking for a hour and a half,so really with myself.

My biggest problem is cutting out the coke (drink sort!).

jofeb04 · 30/12/2007 19:09

I'm also in the middle of sorting out my MP3 player, I'm actually looking forward to it for once!

Mummy2CharlotteJean · 30/12/2007 19:09

thanks valma
this looks good for anyone wanting to take part in the rfl.
only skimmed through it

JudgeNutmeg · 30/12/2007 19:09

Hello!

I have to show the world my cellulite when I go to Center Parcs in April. I have already lost a stone on slimming world and I start at the gym on Jan 2nd.

I was very fit last year due to regular gym attendance but sadly I buggered my knee up. I've started a new program at a new gym that has a great vibe. Although I probably won't run again there is still plenty that I can do.

I'd like to lose another stone by April at least.

JingleyJen · 30/12/2007 19:43

looking good ladies!!

Are we all happy to chase each other?

Looking forward to getting to know you as we get fitter together!

I'm about halfway through the "Couch to 5K" plan - which is an achievable way to get up to running 5k (I'm not a natural runner and have knee problems)

Couch to 5K

jofeb04 · 30/12/2007 20:17

Rach,
Thanks for that.

Looking forward to having a kick up my arse when I'm sitting here on mn and having a pint... when I should be out doing something

scanner · 30/12/2007 20:51

So how are we going to keep motivating ourselves and each other?

I have made getting fit a new years resolution for years and never do anything about it. last year for the first time ever I actually achieved one of my resolutions and am determinded to do the same this year. So, this time it's not just talk, but I am actually going to achieve.

blushingm · 30/12/2007 21:00

hi - jen invited me....i too am wobbly and from 2nd january im determined to get fitter, more toned and a lot lighter. please can you all give me kicks up the arse and tell me off if i start to slip??

i'm planning on low fat diet with lots of fruit (which my emplyers provide free so i have no excuse for buying stuffffrpm the trolley lady) and veg. i'm planning to swim at least twice per week on my own for aboyt 20 - 30 mins and once with the kids and what ever walking i can fit in. does this sound enough/any good???

BeeEm · 30/12/2007 21:20

Hurrah!
am here!
am dusting off me trainers and when the gin wears off will be hitting the streets/forest.
i realy want to loose some weight as now resemble dawn french/a small whale. and my dear friend is getting married next september. oh and i'd love to be fitter and to have to wear a smaller uniform for work!
please please remind me about this and give me a good kikking if i don't get running. xx

JingleyJen · 30/12/2007 21:25

Hi Blushing -

Scanner I thought that if you are happy with it the first person around in the morning should start a thread for the day - we could all post in the morning our good intentions for the day and then as we achieve our goals we come back and share our good news..

If we haven't seen someone for a while we hunt them down!!! (not really but we see if they are ok)

I know that we could all lie to each other but I do think it will make me stick to things if I have told you all that I am going to do it and knowing I will have to come back and let you know either way..

so did everyone jump or are we still missing some?

BeeEm · 31/12/2007 18:27

Just been for a run/wobble!
Took DD2 with me as she's supposed to be my running buddy (quality time together?) which didn't work well as she had a massive do half way round but i plodded on. hope to do more that 25 steps before walking tomorrow!

sparklygothkat · 01/01/2008 22:24
