Talk to me about your GORD/acid reflux/hiatus hernia

Before people get angry, I am under medical review, I am not seeking medical advice, but am feeling really lonely and scared so looking for some reassurance.

For a few weeks I have been burpy. About 2 weeks ago I got what felt like pain in my oesophagus and epigastric pain, with ongoing burpiness. I've been quite stressed about it so off my food but I think that's psychological.

Saw a dr, diagnosed GORD with oesophagitis and started lansoprazole 30mg 10 days ago. Since then symptoms are better in terms of burping, and the pain is probably a bit better but still comes and goes. Plus I have diarrhoea since starting the PPI.

I'm awaiting endoscopy, and once this flare has settled and I'm off the PPI I am to do a h pylori test.

Just wondered if this rings true for anyone. Was hoping that 10 days of PPI would have fully settled the symptoms, and have a long wait until the endoscopy actually happens I think.
(I'm 28)

Feeling a bit lonely about it and would appreciate anyones own similar stories and outcomes. Thank you.

I'm in the process of trying to manage a newly diagnosed hiatus hernia, through a low acid diet. It's really challenging and i can't seem to get the right balance at all.

Hopefully your endoscopy will be soon. They will be able to do biopsies for h pylori at the same time, if you find you can't come off the medication.

Sympathies, it's really horrible. I am scared to eat every meal at the moment.

Hi, in my experience it took longer than 10 days of medication to settle it. The things that work are losing excess weight, not eating and drinking at the same time and eventually, for me, surgery.

Thank you both. Going to ask for this to go to health.

I tested positive for H Pylori late last year and am still having symptoms. I’ve modified my diet, but still have mucus-y throat, a lot of burping, night time coughing, and a burny throat. I’m on Omeprazole and recently had the dose increased to twice a day. The GP said it can take a long time to “heal”.

No doctor has seen me in person and no offers to refer me anywhere, just the HP test.
