Red breast spreading? Pics - early pregnancy

Hi guys,

I hope you're ok, you may have seen my previous post about my red patch at 6 weeks or so pregnant and 23.

So the fungal cream for my red patchisn't working, I'm fact it's now spreading all around and getting redder. I've called 111 and my GP now wants to try me on antibiotics for mastitis. I tried to push for a breast clinic but he said try these. Does this look similar to anyone else's mastitis? Or had anything similar? The soreness has gone down, they're now just typical tender boobs. It's only slightly more dropped than the right breast.

Any little help is great xx

Also it's worse at night and when I wake up. It's only in the centre of my breasts when I wake and in the evening

Any redness spreading should be checked for inflammatory cancer. It's highly unlikely as you describe it as coming and going and over such a time period but not one you want to wait on.

I'd take the antibiotics and if not better in 3 days ask for urgent referal.

This is my worry, it's ruined my health for the past 2 weeks thanks to Dr google. I am going to do as you say try the antibiotics for a couple of days and then push harder x

@Bambsx A nurse once told ne that a ‘Little knowledge is a dangerous thing’ and this is even more so since the internet and dr Google. So yes do try the antibiotics and if it doesn’t work get in touch with your GP and tell them your worry.

I would insist on a 2ww referral and try the antibiotics in the meantime, I've never heard of mastitis while pregnant, but that doesn't mean it isn't a thing, is it in both breasts or just one?

I had mastitis a couple of times and it looked exactly like this both times. It was blooming sore too but I'd already had my son by then so was producing copious amounts of milk. Antibiotics and warm compresses helped, I think in the olden days they used cabbage leaves!

The redness has kind of gone down now, I've attached a pic of how it started - does it look similar to how yours started? X

It did. It started with a red patch and pain. On one occasion it was very much on the outer aspect and it traced the length of some of my milk ducts so it was more of a set of lines which reflected where the inflammation was but the other couple were red patches :) x

Hi,

Did you find out what this was?
I’m currently 17 weeks and I’ve just noticed redness under one of my boobs.

Fixthesky · 29/10/2022 12:10

Hi!

I’ve looked at your pictures and I have the exact same thing!

I am going out of my mind with worry - I’m just wondering if you ever got referred to the breast clinic and what they said!

I hope you see this and can reply :)

xx

Fixthesky · 29/10/2022 12:10

Hello did you ever find out what yours was? I have also just noticed the same thing!

Bambsx · 29/10/2022 19:42

Hello!

Sorry to hear you are going through the same, I tried the creams they prescribed which did nothing so eventually just had to push for an appointment.

As I am young they didn’t do a mammogram only a ultrasound, the doctor couldn’t really see what I was talking about and just my luck I had a pimple on my boob which he thought I was on about (and done the post appointment report on) which was frustrating.

But the lady said the ultrasound was fine, and 11 months later I still have the mark but I think it must just be pigmentation.

But 1000% push for an appointment for anything like this!!

Hope all goes ok xx

Thank you for replying! Glad your scan showed nothing bad :)

Did they suggest what it could be?

I’ve read loads of stories on here today which sound similar and all of them have ended with normal scans and have been put down to hormonal changes in pregnancy which is reassuring. Lots of people said their red marks went away a few months after birth/ stopping breastfeeding so maybe yours will go eventually too!

I will definitely go to the GP next week and ask for a scan otherwise I will just worry about it!

Littlenix · 08/12/2022 19:56

Hi I’ve been put on antibiotics which didn’t really help it may have calmed the redness down and I’ve tried anti fungal creams that were prescribed. I don’t have any pain just hot red patches on both breasts. Currently 18 weeks pregnant. Both the hospital and GP don’t know what it could be and they have taken pics and referred them to dermatologist to have a look.. I think it must be a thing that just happens for some during pregnancy.
