My 4 year old dd was a bot off all last week but I put it down to being over excited for Christmas and a new baby in the house (I have a 3 week old ds)

However on Christmas day night she started with chickenpox. The rash is everywhere. On her scalp and on her genitals. They are at the red stage though some are weeping.I am giving her calprofen and pitoten syrup bit she is very distressed as they are really hurting especially those in the sensitive area.

She has just cried herself to sleep and sobbed 'pleaae make them go away mummy' I feel so sorry for her and to make matters worse I have to keep her away from the baby so when I am nursing him I have to send her away from me,sobbing. Its awful.

I just wondered how lond this stage will last?

Thanks and Happy Christmas everyone

Had same thing with my dd1 aged 2.5 and dd2 aged 4 months at same time- not a good week..Could try running a net bag full of porridge oats under the tap into her bath seems to help, also lots of tepid baths good, in fact leave her in bath as much as possible. We also got some calamine cream - aqueous stuff in a pot from chemist, boots also sell it in a tube - apparently better than the lotion as it doesnt dry to a powder and get itchy. Just plastered her with it all day and whenever she woke in the night. We had two bad nights and then she was definately on the mend. The baby seemed to suffer much less. Truly a horrible medieval looking disease and it took ages for the marks to go, but they have gone and now I am actually pleased we have got it over with.

I used Germolene (the one with the anaesthetic in). Just dab on the spots. Really worked.

Thanks everyone she seems much brighter today and the spots seem to be going scabby so hopefully tomorrow she may be able to have a quick ride out on her bike Santa brought her
