can a child with a tree nut allergy also be allergic to pine trees, ie. Xmas tree?

I know this is a bizarre question but my 2yo has a tree nut allergy so we obviously avoid tree nuts (especially cashews) in fact we avoid peanuts also.

We have a real Christmas tree this year & since we have had it he is showing mild signs of allergy, i.e, lips swelling and he keeps saying 'mouth hurt' I am wondering if the tree is affecting him. I should add that he is full up with a rotten cold to and has cough, runny nose etc - he has had it for 3 weeks now.

We are seeing the Allergist at the end of January to get him tested.

Yes, I believe you can have a christmas tree allergy. I think one of the mumsnetters is a sufferer but can't remember which one.

Oh crikey. Should I get shot of the Xmas tree then?

I'm sure someone mentioned it in the 'real tree/fake tree' debate a while ago on the Christmas thread.

Thanks jalopy. DH and DD are taking the baubles off the tree right now and we are taking it down. We might put it outdoor in our front garden and buy some oudoor lights tomorrow.

I am going to have to get the hoover around now - what a bloody mess.
