How long until I feel well again ??

I started being sick on xmas eve at lunchtime and was more or less sick solidly for the next 3 hours and then until 4am xmas morning i was sick on and off plus i had awful diorhea (sorry for tmi).

I have never in my whole life been so violently sick and my mum had to help me get up off the bathroom floor and in to bed because I just had no strength in me at all.

So, it's now 4 days later and although I no longer feel sick I just feel incredibly crap and so so drained and shaky, it is taking me ages to get up in the morning and if I try and do anything like make breakfast or wash my hair i feel like i have been hit by a bus and have to sit down.

Am I ever going to feel normal again.

I had similar on holiday a couple of years ago and I'd say it took a week from when I started eating again to approach normal.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 28/12/2007 11:34

Yes but not for quite a while I should think.

I have/had both the gastric dose and the cold/flu that is going, I feel like going to bed and staying there until Easter. Keep eating a little and often.

nutcracker · 28/12/2007 11:36

Snap Brie, but mine was other way round, had the awful cold and then the gastric thing.

It is so hard to eat anything, I just don't want anything at all, but I am very very thirsty all the time. Have never drunk so much coke in all my life.

I was quite shocked how ill I was tbh, scared the life out of me.

Thank heavens for my mum,god knows what i would have done without her.

Have just forced myself to get dressed properly and put some make up on. I'm hoping to feel well enough to walk to the shop later but we'll see.

Poor nutcracker. My dh had exactly the same symptom of thirst as you when he had it. He drank and drank and never pee'ed! Luckily for him (and us) it was a shortlived thing. But you have my sympathy!

Kbear · 28/12/2007 11:40

don't rush it nutty, you sound like you've been hit by a nasty virus and I think going to the shops might be a bad move. Go and walk round the garden first.

My DH and DD had a flu-type virus a few days ago (DH on Christmas Day) and are still recovering. He's just gone to lay down again.

LIZS · 28/12/2007 11:40

It is scary . dh was about to take kids to beach for a few hours but waited while I went to the bathroom - at which point I collapsed. Fortunately he heard and came in and caught me as I fell or I'd have been left there alone and unconscious, for goodness knows how long. You will get better, drink lots and try to eat a little. Carrot soup is good, yoghurt drinks, toast.

nutcracker · 28/12/2007 11:43

Might have to go to the shop, i'm running low on bread and coke LOL.

I'd ask my mum to go but she's out today.

The absolute worst part was that on the night ds was sick too (think because he was coughing though) and I couldn't do a thing to help him, I felt so helpless. He kept saying 'no i don't want you grandma, I want mummy'.

My mum said it was a rather dramatic way of me getting out of cooking xmas dinner LOL.

Blimey Liz that does sound scary.

I have but a beef casserole in the slow cooker so hopefully will be able to manage that later.

Yes little & often with the fluids & snacks to get your energy back. A nasty virus DOES wipe you out like that.

As Kbear says the shops might be a bit ambitious just yet. Get short bursts of fresh air somewhere close so you can collapse on the sofa easily when you get back!

I'm sure it'll pass soon just be kind to yourself & rest up!

We've all of us had the whole shebang here. Just go with the flow and eat and drink when u feel like it. I think November 16th is the last day I can remember noe of us being ill. Flu, gastric flu, diarreah (sp?) - and just for good luck I also had sinusitis too. Plus obviously the worst cough imaginable keeping us all awake all night. My dd2 (8 months) is now a bit offy again today and refusing to eat or drink. We had to basically cancel Xmas - mil was s'posed to come around but decided not to cos she didn't want to catch it (every cloud has a silver lining, eh?). We've got a party round here on New Year's eve and I can't even dare buy the food and drink yet cos I'm so convinced we will have to cancel it cos of being ill.
You've godda laugh haven't you??!!
