What's your aim for 2008?

Mine is to enjoy running for the whole of 10k rather than just the middle 20 minutes - and it would be great to do the distance in under an hour but I'm not overly hopeful in that respect

Celery - I use gel insoles after having problems with my achilles. You may find them helpful for heel pain.

Hope it improves soon.

Celery · 28/12/2007 11:54

hello,

current aim is to sort out my foot injury asap! Longish term aim is to do the New Forest half marathon in September.

Celery · 28/12/2007 11:54

thanks - is there a brand name I can look up?

Lapsedrunner · 28/12/2007 12:05

A very, very long time since I have been here . Not running regularly right now due to similar problem to Celery. Having said that I am planning to venture out and take part in a New Years Eve 5km (very slowly around the centre of Vienna).

Celery - try thesewww.yoursole.co.uk/index.html I have found a real improvement with my plantar f. problem

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/12/2007 12:14

I got mine from my local sports shop Celery - I have the half insoles, a slight raise in my left shoe and an arch support in my right.

5k round Vienna sounds fabbo

OverMyDeadBody · 28/12/2007 12:17

Can I join?

I have not run for two months coz it's so cold but I'm going to get back into it to get fit for the adventure races that will be starting again in march.

I really need support to get the motivation to start running again after I've lapsed, so could do with help here!

Also, after a very tough adventure race in september (3 hrs non-stop running, ouch!) I got bad knees every time I ran for more than 30 minutes, I'm hoping that the time off has allowed for recovery!

OverMyDeadBody · 28/12/2007 12:18

I guess my aim for 2008 is to start running again and be able to run long distance without it hurting so much!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 28/12/2007 20:00

Hello. I have new trainers and am running my first 10k on Sunday. Have not been training as much as I should have been.

Lapsedrunner · 28/12/2007 20:00

If I'm not mistaken you've been here before but changed names OMDB?

Lapsedrunner · 28/12/2007 20:02

Good luck for Sunday SKSS, new trainers are always a good moral boost

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 28/12/2007 21:40

Yes the old trainers gave me awful blisters and after breaking them in for 6months I gave up. Problem is I haven't run further than 5k in the new ones and even my old ones were ok blister wise up to 6k. I am concerned I will develop a huge hole in my foot at the halfway point.

Wallace · 28/12/2007 22:02

get back in a routine

think that I need a "schedule" to follow otherwise it slips

OverMyDeadBody · 29/12/2007 10:12

Lapsedrunner I think I posted once on the old thread about six months ago but almost certain I haven't name changed! Does that mean there's another MNer out there similar to me?!

Right, I am going to motivate myself to go for a run tomorrow (can't today, all booked up)

Any other single mums out there running? If so, how do you fit it in? Mostly the only way I have been able to do it without a babysitter is to take DS along on his bike before school or run in my lunch break, so it's easy to find some excuse not to.

Good luck for tomorrow stripeyknickers! (love the name by the way!)

Minum · 29/12/2007 21:56

DS1 and I are planning a 10km run in June - one training session so far since Christmas - I hurt my hip, and he walked most of it, so some way to go

Wallace · 30/12/2007 07:42

good luck SpottyKnickersStripeySocks (thought it was about time you changed your underwear!)

Minum - you'll get there by June no probs! Are you starting from nothing or do you run alredy?

I went running yesterday fro the first time for a couple of weeks. I only did 20mins, but better than nohing. I am planning a 10k in March and have done myself a schedule, so I'm on my way again!

Minum · 30/12/2007 07:45

I ran a 5km in 2001, but have done very little since then. DS1 is very unfit, and needs to improve to get back into the first team for rugby, so I'm incentiviced for me and him. I'm starting with half hour stints, part running, part walking. Am I right in thinking I should be able to run 10km in less than an hour when I'm fit?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/12/2007 10:43

Hi Minum. The target of 10k in an hour, for me, is achievable with hard work. For other people it seems to be a walk (run!) in the park . I'm not a natural runner though, but I enjoy it and that's the main thing I suppose.....and I'm quite old so I use that as an excuse.

How old is ds1 - are you going out together?

OP posts:
Minum · 30/12/2007 11:49

Hes 13 - yes we are going together, at the moment I'm a bit fitter than him, but I think he'll take over me, especially when he gets back to sports training

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/12/2007 12:08

At 13 - yes I think he will

ds2 (16) occasionally comes out with me, he's much faster but can't sustain and I plod so we're not well matched lol.

OP posts:
JingleyJen · 30/12/2007 12:12

can anyone help - I started running a little while back - went to great small sports shop and went on a treadmil thing for them to help me choose the right trainers for my footfall (not sure if this was sales bs or not) However - when I go running in these trainers I get pins and needles in my right foot within about 20 minutes it is bearable but probably not right. is it the trainers or me that is wonky?

(sorry to hijack the thread!)

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/12/2007 12:18

What size did you get Jingly? They ususally recommend a maybe a half or full size bigger for runners. Are you doing them up too tight? Are you running the same route all the time - one way round the park for example? - sometimes the constant one way camber of the path can affect your footfall.

I get pins and needles in my right foot after about 4 miles sometimes. It usually passes off after a while - I think run a bit heavier on that leg generally.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/12/2007 12:38

Hello ladies!

I am now 20 weeks pregnant and have very recently stopped running. I shall be power-walking instead twice a week from the 7th Jan when DCs are back at sch/pre-sch.

Baby due in May - I really don't know whether I'll be running again by the end of the year. I am missing it, so would like to, but on the other hand I don't want to do too much to soon either and risk long-term damage. And heavy b/f norks will probably defeat even the best sports bra!

Good luck to everyone else - I'll be keeping my eye on all your races this year.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/12/2007 12:44

Hello Norks - glad all is well with you. It's odd how you miss the running when you can't go and when you can go you find it hard to get out - well I do anyway lol.

One of my friends is a competitive runner and she ran waaaaaaaaay into her pg. It was odd to see her leading the pack with this big bump!

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/12/2007 13:04

The grass is always greener... Saggars. I think I'll be stir crazy by the time I'm really huge. Power-waddle, d'you think?

Good luck with your 10k in under an hour. (I think I only managed 5k in 30 mins ONCE)!!!
