Sprained wrist-very painful!

Have had a sprained wrist for a few days which I thought was getting better,so very stupidly lifted some heavy furniture and it's now agony.
Have got some gel on prescription from my gp and have been taking paracetemol but neither is helping very much.Have also bandaged my wrist upbut it seems to be making it worse.
Any other suggestions please?
I can't open jars,cat food pouches or even a banana,it's so painful.

RICE - rest, ice, compression and elevation. Ice for 20 minutes at a time, every 3-4 hours. Keep it firmly wrapped too.

I would switch to ibuprofen, I've always been told to take that for any inflammation injury.

Agree take nurofen as an anti inflammatory/pain relief. Also arnica cream is good for relieving bruising and swelling.

Thanks.
It isn't bruised or swollen, just very painful.Only have paracetol at the mo(except for children's Neurofen),but will be seeing my mum later who has some Ibruprofen.Didn't think to put ice on it,so will try that too.
