So I rang my gp today for my stool sample , she said they've only just came back . I asked her if she could tell me , she said she's not medically trained and the dr hasn't reviewed them yet . I am panicking thinking it's bad , I'm scared

It means just that... she isn't medically trained so she isn't qualified to comment on your test results. It doesn't mean that the results necessarily show anything wrong.

I have had exactly the same response from GP receptionists and the results have been normal.

Of course they can't tell you over the phone. That has never been OK and would be gross misconduct on their part. The receptionist is right.

Once the results have been viewed by GP, their comments will be put on the system, so ring again today. The receptionist will tell you if anything further needs to be booked in.

I work in a GP surgery and no this doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. On our system, when the results are back but haven't been reviewed by a GP we can still see them, but they are marked as "provisional". As non-clinical staff, we aren't allowed to give the results out at this stage even if they are quite clearly normal because (like the receptionist said) we have no medical training. Once the results have

Sorry, I hit the post button too soon! Once the results have been reviewed by a GP, the GP will add a comment (e.g. "normal" or "for GP appointment" or "low iron - prescription issued"), which we can then pass on to the patient. I definitely wouldn't be worrying based on what you've been told xx

bigbluebus · 12/01/2022 08:16

Absolutely standard. I've rung for test results many times and gave been told the same.

victoriaaaa · 12/01/2022 08:46

Thankyou for your replies , I got the results back and everything negative no further action required

@victoriaaaa Oh the relief of those words, ‘normal no further action’! Smile

our receptionists do ring you with test results (or at least they did with my blood test results) but she was reading out a note from the GP which meant absolutely nothing to me or to her so I'd honestly rather she hadn't bothered because then I was trying to google what it meant!
