I've had a sore throat and aching neck sore on the sides of my neck for 8 days now.
Rang GP today and he sent an email saying that because it's gone on for longer than a week they normally treat with Amoxicillin so has done me a prescription.
Is it likely to be bacterial if it's over a week?
I feel ok ish in myself apart from headache, sore throat and glands on my neck and at the beginning part of the week I felt achy for 24 hours.
Negative PCR by the way.
WWYD? Take the antibiotics? I'm just unsure because the Gp hasn't actually looked In my throat or swabbed or anything?

I woul take them and if you are no better go back 'm often prescribed anti bionics over the phone for a different complaint and take them and usually they work.

Usually if a very sore throat goes on for more than a week it needs some sort of treatment. Swabbing would make no difference to treatment initially as they’d check for sensitivities to a particular antibiotic. Hopefully once you’re finished the course you’ll be fine, go back if it becomes worse.
