Cough, cough and cough at night, not a peep during the day

DS has the most awful cough at night, but is perfect all day long. Last night it was so bad he made himself sick, which his dinner he had eaten 5 hours earlier

Have given him some Tixylix night cough and hopefully that has helped for tonight. But am thinking of taking him to GP tomorrow, who thankfully, according to their website are open 8am-5pm.

Anything else I can do to ease his cough, he;s actually straining to cough and nothing is happeneing.

He has a floppy larynx if that makes any difference, and has just turned 1

i use a karvol capsule at night for my ds and it really helps - when in boots the other day i saw they make a plug-in one now which seems a great idea

LowFat · 23/12/2007 22:56

Unsually with coughs the GP says cough syrup is 'mechanical'. But the Tixylix seems to be okay.

But no cough is better than a treated cough. Will ask the pharmacy about the plug in, but he doesnt have a snuffle, just a cough.

i find the night cough stuff brillant... dd sometimes coughs at night prob cause she is lying flat...

could you raise one end of cot?

Furball · 23/12/2007 23:05

i don't know how old your child is but my ds is exactly the same at the moment. he has a spponful of manuka honey (honey can only be given after 12 months) every night before bed which seems to do the trick

sometimes (but not always) night coughing can be a sign of asthma.

but it could just be a nasal; drip thingy which is irritating his throat.

gigglewitchyouamerrychristmas · 23/12/2007 23:08

honey and blackcurrant, if you can get him to have it -obv not in a bottle (honey safe after 1yr, so is ribena etc)

has anyone mentioned asthma? my DC who have it coughed all night and not in the day.

also try humidifier / wet towel on radiator / bowl of water in their room (obv out of reach)
will keep thinking

put pillow or towels under his cot matress? i sometimes resorted to having DC sleeping in their pram and me kipping on the sofa, just to get them at the right angle and all of us some sleep.

He was sick again last night so I phoning the GP for an appointment later this morning.

He has a wedge under him normaly, but he did sleep better after some nasal drops so does seemm as FTONY suggested a drip on his throat.

Because of his floppy larynx I jus want to get him checked out incase it seems to be going on to his chest - as has happened in the past.

It's just the throwing up that has never happened before.
