on 27th I've got an appt with ENT to have a microscope put down my throat. Would rather be put under but heard they only sedate.

I had one without any sedation as pg at the time! I can't say it was great but over v quickly, no pain and I was wide awake. If you're sedated I think it will be a breeze!

Thanks - wow no sedation I have a strong gag reflex - that's why I'm a bit scared! Plus the lump or whatever it is in my throat makes the area feel congested enough without a foreign body going in there iyswim.

I had one under sedation, remember nothing though, was like being asleep really (time speeds up iyswim?)

Was a bit groggy for the rest of the day though. If you have the spray you are ok though

lyndyloo · 23/12/2007 19:05

They give you a throat spray which stops the gag reflex. I've heard that with the sedation you don't notice a thing.

Great - feel v reassured. Thank you It was dh who scared me with tales of his work colleague who said it was the worst thing ever as once the tube is down there is nothing you can do.

Yes - they gave me pancreatitis which then left me in hosp for 2 weeks, off sick for 6 weeks and screwed up my chances up getting into Royal Navy as officer - bastards - don't go to kings college whatver you do!

Octo · 23/12/2007 22:40

Oh just to add I was sedated and never felt a thing!

ladylush · 24/12/2007 10:30

Shit! How did that happen? Tbh I was a bit worried about MRSA. It's not Kings.

Endoscopy is fine felt nothing. However, Colonoscopy is hideous- I will never have one again teh pain is awful.

ladylush · 24/12/2007 16:27

Ouch - don't fancy that either Anyway, I rang today to find out whether I would be sedated and the receptionist said it's usually just a consultation in the first appointment. I'm torn between relief that it's not happening and the desire to get it over and done with as the lump in my throat is very uncomfortable.

Ladylush - don't worry about the endoscopy honestly - if its a colonoscopy then you have my sympathy.
