DD has been sick 16 times since 8am, she is refusing to even sip water or take any fluid, would offering her an ice lolly be bad?

She is 7 (just)

Has been sick 16 times already today (she has been counting!!) she wont even sip water or anything (not even to rinse out her mouth) She took some calpol about half an hour ago (and hasn't been sick again.

Would it be ok to give her an ice lolly, I only have cheapo crappy ones, so they are obviously not ideal, but better than nothing I would have though?? She hasn't been to the toilet once today, so I think she really needs something!

She looks so pale!

(I am meant to be at a lovely wedding with champagne, and I have a lovely new dress and shoes and bag and necklace, which will all be unworn.....sigh.....)

I would give her whatever she wants at this stage, at least she'll be getting some liquid.

coldtits · 22/12/2007 13:17

no it would be great! good idea.

Sorry about the wedding.

TripleyXmasTippleTigger · 22/12/2007 13:17

Ice-cubes?

MerryAnnSinglemas · 22/12/2007 13:17

ice lolly would be fine - so sorry you are missing wedding too

Lizzylou · 22/12/2007 13:17

Poor DD and Poor you.

Give her the ice lolly.

Hope she feels better soon

SevenSwansASlouching · 22/12/2007 13:18

Yes icelolly good. Fluid and also sugar which will help.

TooTickyDoves · 22/12/2007 13:18

I would appeal to her common sense - she is in danger of dehydrating. Also, water will help her to flush out whatever it is her body is trying to get rid of that much quicker.
Huge sympathies btw!!

Thanks all in the time it took me to type out that message she has started to fall asleep!!! I will let her have a sleep then offer her an ice lolly I think!

It may well make her sick again, but at least she will keep some of it in, wont she?

She always looks so small and pale when she is ill

Bit disappointed at the wedding, my mum offered to babysit as she was meant to anyway (It was a child free wedding ) but I wouldn't have enjoyed myself for worrying anyway!

She will keepo some of it in. When ds had a hideous bug a while back, I was told to keep giving him liquids. They would inevitably reappear but he would absorb some in the mean time. This is the main bit of advice these days, the old, nil-by-mouth version has made way for concerns over dehydration so you are doing the right thing.

Hope she feels better soon. And sorry about your wedding. I am meant to be at one too today but it is 200 miles away and I am just too darn pregnant!!

ska · 22/12/2007 13:34

i asked our pead about this a few weeks ago - he said that you should give them lots of liquids and some of it could be dioralyte stuff or sugary fizzy drinks. he said feed them if they are hungry and see what happens - they won't eat if they're not up to it.

Sidge · 22/12/2007 13:38

Give her whatever she wants, poor babe, whether it's lollies, lemonade or soup.

Any fluid will help.

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 13:39

Thanks both, I'll play it by ear then and see how she goes!

My mum has just phoned, she was here this morning and helped with the cleaning up, she has just come down with it now!!!

Hope I'm not next!!!

Why does this always happen so near xmas!

I always keep ice pops in freezer for when they ill, espeacially good for when they have temp. When they are that ill I think it is best to give them whatever they fancy

Sexmasonlegs · 22/12/2007 14:18

Just wanted to say I totally empathise. Dd4 has been puking today (not 16 times tho) and looks as white as a sheet. DD2 was sick 2 days ago - just waiting for me and dh to get it now. We too are missing a party and I am gutted.

Hope your lo is better soon.

Sexmasonlegs · 22/12/2007 14:18

That meant to say dd who is 4 not dd4!

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 15:26

Thanks, she hasn't been sick again, since I last posted so fingers crossed she is on the mend! She has had a couple of sips of water too!

Hope your DD is feeling better too SOL, and that we all escape it!!!

She has just had an ice lolly and asked if it was nearly lunch time!! She was rather disappointed to find it was past lunch!!

I'll see how she gets on with keeping the lolly down before I offer anything else I think!

The ice lolly has reappeared!!! Lots!!!!

Sexmasonlegs · 22/12/2007 18:57

Oh no! DD has stopped being sick, but now has the runs - lovely!

Feeling ropy myself now - inevitable really isn't it?

Hope your dd is better soon. x

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 19:32

Oooh nice! Not sure which is worse really!?

DD is still being sick! I don't feel great either, although I had the runs on wed night/ thursday, so I'm hoping DD has caught this from me and it's not something I will now catch from her [hopeful]

Hope you are all feeling better soon!

Oh, big sympathy...Ds1 had this a couple of weeks ago, really sick over and over for about a day then on and off for a couple more days, but on the whole much better...I had it sort of, but not as bad, and then my Mum got it badly, so it sounds like a similar thing.
Hope you catch up with the washing, it took me about 2 weeks to get it all done! xx

JacanneAbox · 22/12/2007 19:44

Lollies always work really well here Hope she feels better soon.

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 19:47

Luckily, she has managed all but one time (the first) into a sick bowl, so there has been no washing!! Touch wood that continues!!

She has just had a drink of water and been sick, then literally 30 seconds later DP walked past her with chips and she stole one and ate it!

I honestly don't know how she can do that!!!!

OP posts:
Sexmasonlegs · 22/12/2007 19:48

It's my dd2's leaky nappies that are causing the washing here - grossssssssss!!

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 20:07

The joys of parenthood eh??
