Can anyone answer a Calpol query?

DS1 is ill AGAIN. He has a flu-like thing going on with high temp. I have run out of Calpol 6plus but have lots of the 2months+ sachets. Do I need to up the dose a little? (He is 8 and big for his age)

Actually I may have answered my own question as have googled calpol. 6+ is 250mg per 5ml spoon 2months+ is 120mg per 5ml. An 8 year old can have 2 x 5 ml of the 250mg suspension, 500mg so I could give him 4 sachets of the 120mg suspension.

Can someone check my maths before I do though?

How many mg paracetamol in Calpol 6plus?

I know that the 2+sachets are 120mg.

As long as you give him the appropiate number of mg for his age/weight, you can give him the sachets.

am basing this on MEDINOL (120MG PER 5ML) which is a paracetamol suspension which i use and not calpol. its for the under 6years old, and it says that 6yr+ have 3-4 teaspoons and not 1-2 that under 6's have.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 21/12/2007 12:37

that sounds fine to me

The 6+ is 250mgs. I think I can give him 4 sachets of the 2months + which is 120mg.

so you will in fact be giving him 480mg paracetamol, which is fine

Thank you - I will give him 4 sachets. Poor boy, he's waiting patiently on the sofa looking very glassy eyed whilst I warble on.
