Could be Irritable Bowel Syndrome, so go see the doc.

mybabysinthemanger · 20/12/2007 22:40

Possibly IBS? But your dp is correct, that's not right and you should see your GP.

Mummy2CharlotteJean · 20/12/2007 22:43

Thank u. i will make a docs app. is there anything he can do at all?

Keep a food diary, start with 1 meat and 2 veg, slowly introduce more food, and write down any effects. Do it for drinks too. May help you see if there is a single ingredient that causes it. Caffiene is a common one in IBS.

TippiHedren · 20/12/2007 22:45

There are no tests for IBS and but they may do some to rule out other things like ulcers.

madamez · 20/12/2007 22:46

Are you under a lot of stress? Have you had any kind of major life change like going vegetarian? Or are you on any regular medication? I have lively bowels myself (not so much irritable as criminally insane at times) but have always been a bit that way inclined. If this is a radical new development in your daily life then you should definitely make a doctor's appointment as there's probably something useful that can be done.

discoverlife · 20/12/2007 22:51

I have IBS and I find that within 5 mins of the first cup of tea in the morning I HAVE to go. But I also HAVE to go within the first hour of waking up, whether I have eaten/drunk or not.
So the possibility is there, but go to docs to rule out anything else.
If it is IBS there are medications that help a lot, and there are lots of help groups, some of them attached to the hospital.

Mummy2CharlotteJean · 20/12/2007 22:52

Thank you tippi. if it is ibs is there anything that can be done? ie meds or anything?
Madamez yes im having a very stressful time atm but this has been happening for about 6months now and its like after everything i eat, even if its just a bag of crisps.
hmmmm dp just asked me to ask....could it be my digestive system working too fast?

Stress and anxiety will make an irritable bowel worse, but there are plenty of meds, meditation exercises and sensible dietary changes that can help a lot. See your GP in the first place and get dietary advice from a group or a specialist rather than going on demented exclusion diets that might stop you shtting but might cause other problems. Immodium (loperamide) is pretty good for days when you really dont* want to be running off to the loo every few minutes.

discoverlife · 20/12/2007 23:29

I found the prescription drug Mebeverine is very good for those days when you really need to keep it together.
All the doc's specialists say humongeous amounts of fibre help as well.
