In need of antibiotics on a bank holiday - any ideas?!

I have tonsillitis and everywhere is shut as it's Christmas bank holiday; can anyone recommend a reputable online company I can do a consultation with to get them prescribed online? I feel so ill and waiting another 48hrs (minimum) to see a doctor will be horrendous.

Can't 111 organise a prescription for you?

SickAndTiredAgain · 27/12/2021 14:55

I’d call 111 and see if a Dr can call you back, and send a prescription to the pharmacy if necessary.

Call 111. A family member called on Christmas Day evening, they called back within a couple of hours, prescribed antibiotics and told her which pharmacy would be open Boxing Day for her to collect them. She began taking then within 12 hours of her call to them. Was impressed as she expected a long wait for the call back!

111 can prescribe antibiotics sent straight to a local pharmacy that will be open.

Oh wow, thanks for the replies, I didn't realise I could use 111 like that! I'll ring them now.

I got some via 111 for tonsillitis today Xmas Smile I called and 7am and had a predcription by 2pm.

The NHS is fab.

Hoppinggreen · 27/12/2021 15:01

I called 111 yesterday morning at 7 am and got a call back from a Doctor at 9.30 am. She sent antibiotics to a local pharmacy
DH went to get them at 10.30 but they hadn’t turned up. Fortunately after speaking to me on the phone the pharmacist agreed to dispense them anyway.
Better service from 111 than pre Covid

Well 1hr 40 mins later and I'm still on hold - must have rang at the wrong time Sad

I used The Online Clinic, it cost £35. I picked up my antibiotics from boots.

Google your nearest urgent care centre.

I went to one on a Sunday for a UTI and got seen quickly.

also recommend online clinic or Pushdoctor
