Tight chest and fluttery heart.. what on earth could this be?

nonotquite · 25/12/2021 21:41

For the last couple of days, in the evenings especially, I've been having a really painful tight chest. It feels like someone is sitting right on top of it / putting an immense amount of pressure on the top of my chest.

I have also had a strange fluttery feeling in my heart.. I don't know if this even makes sense!! It feels like I'm skipping a beat / catches me off guard and is just awful and really unsettling. I'm sat here as I write this and am hyper aware of the way my heartbeat feels, it just doesn't feel right.

I did have the Moderna booster around 2 weeks ago. Could it be this..? I feel terrified it's something worse.

I do suffer with anxiety but this is definitely not anxiety driven, I know the difference and usually get a bad tummy ache / pain with anxiety. I don't know what to do! It feels like I have to take a really deep breath to try and re regulate my heart rate 😣

Isn't everyone given a band now ? Perhaps it's because they will be doing bloods ?

nonotquite · 26/12/2021 13:57

Thanks all that's made me feel much better! I was worried I would be kept In. Can't believe I'm sitting in A&E on Boxing Day 😣

@nonotquite it's standard to have a wrist band, it doesn't mean you will be admitted. I was in a&e few months ago with similar, I had pressure feeling and "funny feeling". I had ecg, chest X-ray and echo scan. An abnormality was picked up but nothing serious or life threatening and I am now seeing the cardiologist in outpatients. It's good you are getting checked, I Hope everything is okay and keep us updated if you can Thanks

Clarice99 · 26/12/2021 14:01

I hope everything turns out okay for you OP.

You definitely did the right thing taking yourself to A&E. Those types of symptoms should not be ignored.

Very glad you have gone in. Hope you get seen quickly and are ok.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 26/12/2021 14:13

Glad you’re being seen, OP. It could be multiple non-serious things (like costochondritis, indigestion or anxiety for eg) but it’s really important to rule out the serious things first.

Beach11 · 26/12/2021 16:15

How are you feeling op?

nonotquite · 26/12/2021 16:36

Thank you all. Had bloods, an ECG and currently waiting for an X-ray.

By the sounds of what the man is saying it sound like he’s worried about constriction of my arteries to my heart.

You are in the best place, hoping the doctors can give you a diagnosis soon so that you get the right treatment.
@Janeandjohnny no I don’t find it troubling, it’s impossible to say whether any of these reports and linked to the vaccine or not, and whether they are even cardiac related.
The incidence of pericarditis or myocarditis is very low, more common in under 25’s and as far as I know, haven’t led to any more serious complications.
Hi @Cardio101
I think mine is for sure as it started two hours after my vaccine and I have never had palpatations before. The ECG and bloods were clear so I agree no cardiac event but I do wonder if this pain is an immune response. It seems odd that so many people have pretty much the exact same issues. Im pro vax, pro science but Id really like to be sure that side effects are minimal. Currently if a 2nd booster were offered I would refuse.

I was in on the 23rd for 5 hours also in disbelief. Are you asthmatic by any chance?
wineandsunshine · 26/12/2021 18:43

Good luck op - keep us updated Smile

For me they did bloods to check for a marker for myocarditis, an x ray, oxygen levels, blood pressure, ecg. All clear. Took 5 hours so grab a cup of tea if you can.
CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/12/2021 18:55

Hope you're OK, OP. Did they actually say what the ECG showed up?

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 26/12/2021 19:22

I had the ‘skipping’ heartbeats for a while - no crushing feeling though. Turned out to be related to severe anaemia. Had a course of mega iron tablets and it stopped and has never come back.

Benjispruce5 · 26/12/2021 19:59

I had a period of palpitations in my late 20s. It was weird and came on daily but out of the blue. GP couldn’t fathom it , gave me beta lockers and said my heart sounded fine. I didn’t take them and from that day it stopped. I think I just needed the reassurance.

backonceagain2 · 26/12/2021 21:21

How you getting on op

How did you get on OP? Hope you’re alright

nonotquite · 27/12/2021 23:28

Hi everyone thank you for your lovely well wishes. Finally discharged earlier this evening. Really frustrating but also I'm glad.. but they couldn't find any abnormalities in my scan, bloods or ECG. I did have my BPM and pulse taken on 4 different occasions and my BPM reached 139 and 'settled' if you can call it that, at 120. Do something definitely isn't right. But just glad I can be at home now.
