Tight chest and fluttery heart.. what on earth could this be?

For the last couple of days, in the evenings especially, I've been having a really painful tight chest. It feels like someone is sitting right on top of it / putting an immense amount of pressure on the top of my chest.

I have also had a strange fluttery feeling in my heart.. I don't know if this even makes sense!! It feels like I'm skipping a beat / catches me off guard and is just awful and really unsettling. I'm sat here as I write this and am hyper aware of the way my heartbeat feels, it just doesn't feel right.

I did have the Moderna booster around 2 weeks ago. Could it be this..? I feel terrified it's something worse.

I do suffer with anxiety but this is definitely not anxiety driven, I know the difference and usually get a bad tummy ache / pain with anxiety. I don't know what to do! It feels like I have to take a really deep breath to try and re regulate my heart rate 😣

Bloody hell - this had been me today as well. Always suffer from anxiety but this is different and exactly as you describe. Also had my Moderna 2 weeks ago

I think you should get checked out by a dr, but when I was having palpitations it turned out to be a menopause symptom

I had this at start of menopause and then it disappeared. Ring GP though, heart issues must always be checked. ECG takes 10 minutes

@TheFuckingDogs oh wow! It's awful isn't it! Proper heart palpitations and racing. It's absolutely horrendous. I feel like I'm going crazy trying to figure out what I've done differently, but nothing!

It could be heart palpitations and hormonal changes, unpleasant and a bugger on the nerves but ultimately harmless however you do still need to get medical advice to rule out other causes first.

I get similar with indigestion/acid reflux - you been eating more/ rich/fatty food/alcohol?

Oh gosh I didn't think about calling GP.. I suppose you're right though.
I will perhaps give them a call? It's just in the evenings that it seems to come on.

I don't know of a booster producing those symptoms but then I'm not a doctor.

It could be anxiety but please call NHS111 and have a chat to someone.

I haven't eaten anything abnormal and don't drink as I'm allergic 🙈 it's been predominantly the last two days, but had the jab around a week and a half - two weeks ago. The first night it happened i honestly thought I was going to die. Sounds dramatic I know but I actually panicked as I couldn't get a breath in. I could physically feel my heart slowing / missing beats 😣😞

Even breathing in and out is slightly painful actually. It feels like I'm having to force everything like breathing which should be a natural thing!

Exactly this. I had an ECG, a heart monitor to wear at home for 48hrs, and then another ECG as well as bloods and a general health check (blood pressure, urine sample, weight, etc). All fine. I tend to get the palpitations for a day or two around ovulation and then for a few days around my period, I also get costochondritis to go with it now because the only thing more fun than palpitations is palpitations with chest pain Hmm

Have heard it can be linked to the booster vaccines. Best to alert the GP.

Thanks all. I am overweight but actively trying to loose it. I think my weight scares me when it comes to things like this as I think the worst 😣

I am due on my period in the next few days but honestly I've never had this around my period or ovulation. I wish I could pinpoint it to something so that I could avoid it.. eg a certain drink for example. It's just driving me insane!

A cardiac nurse advising somebody with crushing chest pain that it's 'probably anxiety'?

OP, you need to seek advice from real professionals now. Chances are it isn't anything awful - but it's not a random on Mumsnet's call to make.

Agree with this, if you were to call 111 with those symptoms, it's possible they'd want you to be seen by a doc. It is possibly relevant that you had your covid booster recently as well. Hope you feel better soon Xmas Smile

This is a call 111 for advice situation.

Palpitations was my first covid symptom, it got worse (heart wise). I did not feel sick, a slight cold perhaps so it was a surprise to test positive.

If I think about it, I've also got a slight cough but only in the evenings again. I test daily and also take PCR's that i send off for work, and negative. It's very very strange.

When I had my Moderna booster, the person who administered it said there was a rare possibility it could cause inflammation of the heart muscle, I'd definitely get checked out OP.

I had similar side effects from Pfizer vaccine however I'm use to it with suffering from anxiety too

I had my Pfizer booster in late November and have been having this for about 3 weeks- I didn't even consider it could be the booster as I rarely have any side effects from jabs and didn't after my first two Pfizer. The tightness in my chest is more like the top of lungs/ lower airway. I have PSVT anyway (benign heart palpitations) but they've been way more frequent because the pattern of my breathing has changed because it is uncomfortable to breathe deeply and sets off a coughing fit. I'm gasping for breath in weird places when talking because I feel like I can't breathe deeply enough- almost like having a conversation whilst running. It isn't covid. Isn't a chest infection. Isn't anxiety. My GP sent me for a chest x-ray and has px a salbutamol inhaler for now as a temporary measure over Christmas. It's horrid.
