Heart disease Recipe book

I've unexpectedly been found to have very high cholesterol. ( I'm post menopausal, don't know if that's relevant). I want to start eating food low in saturated fats ( as advised by the specialist). Can anyone recommend a recipe book that has fairly unfussy / simple easy dishes for a healthy heart diet? I know grilled / steamed meats and steamed veg is the what I should be eating but I would run out of ideas/variety in about a week ! So looking for ideas to draw up a meal plan. TIA!

If you want to reverse and prevent heart disease, the best diet is a whole foods plant based diet. Google forks over knives or dr Mcdougal.

This diet can drastically reduce cholesteral.

Has your GP started you on a statin, OP? Because tweaking your diet can only lower your cholesterol by a small percentage - your liver actually manufactures the stuff!

@Babdoc I'm going to start taking a statin but the doctor did say I should limit saturated fats. I do eat a fair few high fat foods - bacon, cream etc so probably best to follow his advice. But there is very confusing advice out there. For decades it's been thought that saturated fat caused high cholesterol and now there's the low carb movement which says that dietary fat intake doesn't affect blood fats.

I like the Sally Bee cook books - (she had a terrible heart attack and adjusted her diet afterwards) -
the recipes actually taste good!

The British Heart Foundation
website has lots of great recipes plus masses of information. It's a really good website for anything heart related.

@campion I hadn't thought to look at the BHF website. It's got so much info, and easy to understand. Thanks.

If you do whole foods plant based you can SIGNIFICANTLY cut your cholesteral.....its been proven by many people. Check out dr mcdougal, dr mcgregor, dr esslstein. Read how not to die, eat to live, the china study, starch solution....list can go on.
