Has anyone had to wait for biopsy results this time of year?

I had a bit of a scary appointment yesterday, I thought I had a cyst but they found a ‘suspicious hard mass’.
After scans and mammograms I had a core biopsy, they did say it can take 10 days.. but as 10 days time is Christmas Day, I could be waiting until early January.

I was just wondering if anyone has had to wait at this time of year, and if so how long it took?

As much as I’m trying to be positive and concentrate on Christmas, I’m worried sick and don’t want this to hang over me throughout the whole festivities.
Mind you, if it isn’t benign then I’m not sure I’d want to know that before Xmas anyway!
Only my dh knows so trying to keep this to ourselves and show face is hard too.

I had a 10 week wait recently for my biopsy results - to say I was worried was an understatement. The secretary I spoke to (3 times) did say that they prioritised people whose biopsies had shown something of concern so that reassure me a bit, but 10 weeks was ridiculous. I hope you get yours sooner, I really sympathise as the waiting is awful.

Froppysue · 16/12/2021 16:21

Oh that must have been an awful wait @SirChenjins - do you mind if I ask was everything ok?
I did wonder if the longer I wait the better it will be, but the dr made a point of telling me yesterday that if I’m waiting until January it doesn’t mean it’s good news Confused

Thankfully everything was OK which was a huge relief. I really hope it turns out to be nothing for you too, the waiting is not easy at all so I'm not going to say 'try not to worry' because of course you'll be concerned. DH said to me that whatever happened we'd find the strength to face it, so maybe that's the way to think about it - you will deal with when you know what you're dealing with? I really do feel for you, it's a horrible feeling.

Still waiting for one from the start of September. I guess they aren't expecting anything sinister with mine, but at the back of my mind is a little voice saying but what if there is something?

Froppysue · 16/12/2021 18:21

@SirChenjins I’m glad to hear it was all ok.
That’s a good way to look at it, thank you. My dh is very much prepare for the worst and hope for the best, don’t think it’s properly sunk in for me yet tbh.

@longtompot that’s an awfully long time to wait, you must be so worried. Have you called to chase it up? Hope everything is ok with yours too. I understand that little voice.

Also... how long for my boob to stop throbbing?! I can’t lift my arm up it hurts like hell Blush

Ahh that’s rough ☹️ have you got some painkillers and/or copious amounts of alcohol to ease the pain? I had a uterine biopsy so can’t tell you how long it’ll be sore for, sorry, but hopefully not too long 😊

MintJulia · 16/12/2021 19:31

OP, can you put an ice pack on the bruise, it will take down the swelling and ease the ache.

I had a breast biopsy a month ago (North Hampshire) and it took 13 days, So it seems to vary by area.

Good luck Flowers

Froppysue · 16/12/2021 19:46

@SirChenjins thank you, I have painkillers here, not really a drinker though but I have a wee cup of tea, how boring haha.

@MintJulia thank you, I have no idea why I didn’t think of an ice pack?! I have a squishy one in the freezer so I’ll get that now. 13 days isn’t so bad, I hope yours was ok.

I had a biopsy last Tuesday evening and got results on Monday morning. This was in the North West. They said biopsy results are generally about a week.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/12/2021 16:04

Yes, had biopsy on Nov 28th and got results yesterday, N Yorkshire.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/12/2021 16:06

Absolutely everything since I first saw the gp in July has taken several times longer than they said, so I wouldn’t suggest you take any notice of how long they said it would be.

Froppysue · 20/12/2021 12:45

Thank you all for the replies, sorry so many of you have experienced this too.
I’m hoping I get the results this week, but will understand if they take a while longer, just trying to put it to the back of my mind for now.

I got a letter today calling me back for an appointment on the 10th. I’m surprised as the doctor told me it would probably be a phone call, so I’m slightly panicked, but also thinking if it was the anything sinister they probably wouldn’t have me waiting until the 10th.. would they?
