Mole like mark on sole of foot

Loopielu · 10/12/2021 21:02

My young daughter noticed yesterday that I have a mark on my foot. I've never noticed it before, it's about 1cm in diameter. It only looks red in the picture as I was trying to pop it. It's symmetrical, has shades of different colour to it, doesn't itch at all. I'm hoping it's a blood blister but it doesn't look or feel like that. I'm just concerned as I'm pretty sure it's a large mole and it's appeared almost from nowhere. Should I be concerned? Sorry about my gross feet!

Hi @Loopielu, what colour was it before you tried to burst it? Is doesn't look like a mole, I would have another look at it when it's calmed down? Any pain?

Loopielu · 10/12/2021 22:14

Hi. Exactly the same before I messed with it, just minus the red on my normal skin. It's flat, so I don't think it's a blood blister, but I'd be happy for it to be!

No pain, I wouldn't have known it was there if my daughter hadn't spotted it.

Definitely a blood blister

Mustbeteatime · 10/12/2021 22:35

Get a pharmacist to look at it. It's probably nothing, but a family member once had a mole-like mark on their foot which turned out to be a melanoma.

I have no idea whether it looked like your mark though, best to get it checked out.

Mustbeteatime · 10/12/2021 22:39

I should add, family member had it removed with no problems afterwards, it hadn't spread thanks to being caught early. So, definitely worth getting advice from someone qualified rather than random Mumsnet people..

Immaculatemisconception · 10/12/2021 22:41

See your GP pdq.

Loopielu · 11/12/2021 00:12

I'll pop and see a pharmacist tomorrow and take it from there. Thanks for all your responses.

How did you get on at the pharmacy Loopielu ?

Loopielu · 13/12/2021 08:04

Hi. Thanks for checking in with me. I decided to request a GP appointment instead. Hopefully that shouldn't take too long. It's not healed at all, I was hoping it was a blister but I'd have expected some kind of improvement by now. It's exactly the same as when I first noticed it last week.

GP telephone appointment on Friday. I'm actually feeling a bit worried now 😕

Spoke to a private GP via a work scheme I have, and sent them a picture. I need a 2 week suspected cancer referral. Said Friday's appointment could do with bringing forward. Spoke to GP practice who said they'll try to get me a cancellation.

I have PMI but there's no private dermatology appointments available until end of Jan/ early Feb. So the NHS should be be faster for me. Private GP said it may be nothing but definitely needs checking. 🤞

Glad you are on the case, fingers crossed for you and hope you get sorted very soon. Must be worrying, virtual hand hold and well done for pushing to be seen.

HollowTalk · 14/12/2021 12:28

I'm really glad you've got a referral. My DIL had a couple of marks on the sole of her foot which were cancerous - all well now, luckily, but it's always worth getting them checked out.

Loopielu · 23/12/2021 15:38

I'm still waiting for an appointment, wish I didn't have this looming over me over the Christmas period 😟 foot looks no better at all and I'm quite worried now.

Mumzoo5070 · 23/12/2021 20:04

Oh no! Sorry you are still hanging on for an appointment. Is there an appointment being set up for you soon do you know?

Loopielu · 23/12/2021 20:14

It's a 2 week suspected cancer referral and I've not heard anything yet but it's only been just over 1 week so could hear any time soon. 🤞

TroubleAndStrife1 · 23/12/2021 21:42

Poor you - so annoying to have it hanging over you. Fingers crossed the appointment comes through next week

TroubleAndStrife1 · 23/12/2021 21:43

DD's boyfriend (staying with us) recently had a 2 week referral and he did have to phone and chase it up in the 2nd week - have they got your phone number? I only ask as they kept sending him letters and with the Xmas post, they were always arriving late!

Loopielu · 23/12/2021 22:02

Thank you both for your replies. I'm assuming they have my mobile number, I know it's accurate on my medical records. Our post is terrible as the regular postie is off sick.

I'll try and call the local hospital next Wednesday if I've not heard back.

It's the worst time to have this hanging over my head, I can't tell anyone in real life as it doesn't seem fair to worry them. Maybe no news is good news, they have a photo, they may have looked at it and decided it's nothing and not urgent 🙏

Loopie I just had a mole removed from my leg yesterday when I went to get it checked as it had changed. Waiting on biopsy results which the doc apologised would be slower than the normal 2 days due to the holidays. Anyway I just want to say that they do not take the risk and usually refer to dermatologist so it is standard procedure. If it has suddenly appeared it is less likely to be skin cancer from what I understand. Anyway I sympathise, it is awful isn't it like a cloud hanging over but you have taken action and that is a positive whatever it turns out to be.

Loopielu · 24/12/2021 04:17

Thanks @Greengrass. Sorry to hear about you. I really hope your results come back quickly and everything is OK.

Stupidly I've googled new foot mole and there's a particular type of melanoma, I think it's called acral melanoma that can appear on your sole. Really hoping it's not that.

Thanks again and best wishes.

Oh gosh hard not to google but try and focus on you only just noticed it so it can't have bene there that long. Hoping it turns out to be a blood blister but it is good you are getting it checked out.

Bobbyelvis4ever · 02/01/2022 18:48

I have had acral lentiginous melanoma. Please call and chase if you haven’t heard anything.

Please please don’t worry. I’m going to repeat. Please don’t worry.

Mine looked not dissimilar to yours. The doctor said “I’m referring you because it’s feet, and we always refer for things on the soles”. The chap who did the initial minor incision said he’d seen loads, and mine definitely wasn’t. It was, and needed a more major incision. It was staged really early, and nothing else has raised its head since (15 years later).

When you read about it, you’ll find horror stories, and that it’s aggressive. It is, but for people who don’t get it treated / removed. You’re doing that. The saving grace of it is that you can see it.

But take note of the first part - the reason everyone thought mine was non-cancerous is that the majority of these that they see are blood blisters or benign growth.

Please don’t worry. And message me if you need reassurance or support. You’ve got this x

Lauraxx90 · 12/04/2024 17:54

Hi did you find out what it was I'm looking up what mine could be and it's the same as yours hoping it's not what I think it is.
