My Dd(7) has a bad throat, aches and pains, temp and a headache ,the sore throat started yesterday but sent her into school and she's been worse since this morning.Had a look down her throat and on her left side her tonsils are very swollen.

The thing is a letter was sent home last night ,saying there's a case of mumps in the school.

DD has only had one lot of MMR (long story)

I've made an appointment at the Doc's but it's not till this afternoon.

Does anyone know if you get these symptoms with mumps before the 'lumpiness' comes out.

Dreading the thought of both Dc possibly having mumps for Xmas

I remember my brother having it but only really remember the lumpiness and him having a temperature and bright red cheeks.

There is lots of tonsillitis going round which would give you the same symptoms ...

Thanks wishingchair thats what I'm hoping

Just had another look down her throat and her tonsils are looking very inflamed and red so I'm erring on the side of tonsillitis.

Lumpwatch will carry on though till been to doc's

I may be wrong here (i'm sure one will know for sure)but i didn't think your tonsils had anything to do with mumps.I thought mumps was swelling of the parotid glands, just below and in front of the ear, and at times, the salivary glands under the jaw, making it hard to open your mouth.
So hopefully it will be just tonsillitis.
