Am worried about breast cancer, can anyone advise please?

I am a regular, have namechanged as I am embarrassed.

I just found a 'thing' on my breast while I was in the shower. Please don't laugh at me if I am being daft, it just isn't something I've seen before...it's a large spot, to the side about 2" from the nipple. It isn't painful, I have never had spots on my breasts before - it looks like a big red lump, like one of those acne-type ones but it doesn't feel sore to touch like they do.

I am breastfeeding my 6 month old. I just don't know what it could be - yes, possibly just a spot but it looks odd to me.

Please has anyone had experience of something similar, an do you know if it could be a symptom of BC?

Thanks for reading

I am sure I read somewhere that visible surface things like this tend NOT to be cancer, but do not take my word for it! I think it's much more likely to be an early sign of mastitis, but the very best thing is to go and see your GP. Put your mind at rest, and get it attended to.

And try not to panic, I know that's easier said than done, but do try. Now go on, off to the GP with you and good luck!

Of course you are scared sweetheart.

Don't put it off, get down that surgery and save yourself some sleepless nights.

you are very welcome.

Let us know how you get on

jalopy · 18/12/2007 10:49

Good idea to get it checked. Perhaps it's a sebaceous cyst or something.

Nothappeningtome · 18/12/2007 11:29

Thankyou, well I couldn't get to see anyone today as there wasn't enough time while mum was having the boys...I sudden;ly thought it is very like a sebaceous cyst, I will see how it is over the next couple of days and then go if not improved.
