fresh "down there" - embarrasing subject

sorry about this folks, had to do a namechange for this, so embarassing! not a topic for teatime I know and can't face asking even best friends, but I want to ask how long do you expect to remain fresh "down under" after showering? For example on the tv, you see people getting off with each other and ending up in bed together after work ie all day at work after going to loo, etc no showering whatever, I find myself to be less than fragrant as day goes on, I reckon anything after a couple of hours and I wouldn't be able to face sleeping with someone without getting clean first - is it just me or is this something all women face

i would wash before, personally, but i spose it takes away the moment, i don't spose i always did.

donnie · 16/12/2007 21:08

the solution is to make sure anyone you sleep with is equally filthy and stinky!

walkinginaWILKIEwonderland · 16/12/2007 21:08

Depends if you are planning on having oral sex. If so, I like to be fresh washed.

If not, 12 hours is OK, anything over that and I need to clean.

I point blank REFUSE to give DH a BJ if he hasn't showered within an hour or two of the deed.

pantoinghousewife · 16/12/2007 21:11

Cotton knickers, ladies, that will solve your problem!

stockingfiller · 16/12/2007 21:11

lol i wash after the deed so im fresh down there next till next bath/shower

southeastastra · 16/12/2007 21:11

ucm is that you?

frostythesnowmum · 16/12/2007 21:12

I think sex is fine anytime but I agree unless recently washed a trip to the loo prior to oral sex is not just polite it is a neccesity
Personally I think we all stay fresher longer i winter than summer so we should be taking advantage of that just about now

webcrone · 16/12/2007 21:13

What on earth makes you think there's anything wrong with your natural fragrance, except what you see on TV and in the movies? OK, so after a couple of hours there's something other than that 'just washed smell' but it's normal and natural!

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 16/12/2007 21:15

dont really have a problem - i bathe rather than shower so that may help -always wear cotton. would feel fine after a day..i do bath twice a day usually

Anna8888 · 16/12/2007 21:18

Agree with PaulaYates - take baths, not showers, if you want to get properly clean.

webcrone · 16/12/2007 21:20

Out of interest, what do any of you mean by 'properly clean'?

joedar · 16/12/2007 21:22

Older I have thoose exact thoughts!!! Mad I know. But like you say on tv they act as if they smell of pot pourri after a hard sweaty day at work not to mention many trips to the loo!!

I feel as you do and would feel a 12 hour stretch would be my limit even though I know dh wouldn't mind either way.

I recently read a book about a women back in the 40s who lived on a boat working the canals with her hubby and 6 kids and found myself cringing at the thought of how fresh she must have been!!

SantasElasticKnickers · 16/12/2007 21:22

that's true, winter defo better than summer

olderandtireder · 16/12/2007 21:27

I don't seem to be able to last 12 hours, thats my point really, after lunchtime, I'm thinking maybe I could freshen up again ,I just wondered what other women thought although i suppose it is subjective and probably men less bothered by it

OP posts:
pantoinghousewife · 16/12/2007 21:29

Tbh it's something that's never occurred to me, couldn't imagine having to say to dh, 'hang on a sec love, just got to get clean!' Would rather spoil the moment.

olderandtireder · 16/12/2007 21:30

and by properly clean i mean no fishy or wee-ey pongs

OP posts:
pantoinghousewife · 16/12/2007 21:31

Seriously, I think you need to ditch the nylon knickers.

joedar · 16/12/2007 21:34

I understand what your saying Older and I feel I could use freshing up even after peeing!! ( probably stupid I know but I am super sensitive like that)

I wish I could be more relax about it cos sometimes I would take the mood and just not bother because I'd feel unclean!

Its not that I would smell but would just feel un fresh I guess and with discharge at ccertin times would be self concious of that.

olderandtireder · 16/12/2007 21:35

panto never worn nylon, never and thats point of thread, really, to see if maybe i've got a problem no one else has got

OP posts:
PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 16/12/2007 21:35

i think it is actually unnatural for a woman to smell of fish
if you do it would indicate a bacterial infection which is easily treated but you do need to see a gp

olderandtireder · 16/12/2007 21:36

thanks joedar thats how i feel but maybe making too much fuss? just trying to gauge responses, not exactly a topic to bring up in polite conversation!

OP posts:
pantoinghousewife · 16/12/2007 21:40

I wasn't being rude but, I only ever have that problem if I wear synthetic knicker (my sil has a habit of buying horrible nylon g strings for me for xmas). If I wear cotton boy shorts, I don't smell and I stay fresher longer.

sandyballs · 16/12/2007 21:44

I think for straightforward nookie just a daily wash/shower is fine. But anything more intimate like oral would require a shower or bath just beforehand.

Every woman has discharges at certain times of the month, ovulating for example. As for fish smells, i think that can happen if you don't wash daily, but shouldn't otherwise.

olderandtireder · 16/12/2007 21:45

yes panto i totally agree about the nylon thing, i even avoid tights for that reason

OP posts:
olderandtireder · 16/12/2007 21:46

oh well off for my shower now so ready for all eventualities
