Hi..

I have 2 questions - one about me, one about DD.

  1. How soon after stopping breastfeeding did people's periods start again??

  2. DD has what I think is a teething rash on her bottom (at the front), it is really red and not nice to look at but doesn't seem to be giving her any problems. Is it a teething rash and if so how long does it last and how long till I see the tooth??

Hope someone can fill me in.

Thanks

Ellasmum

My periods re-started about 6 weeks later, but I've always been very regular anyway.

Mt periods started about 10 months after the birth, I was still BF but had obviously cut down a lot not DS was on solids. DD was pretty much the same.

Not sure about the rash. Think they do have a tendancy towards nappy rash when teething. I'd just leave nappies off as much as you can and see if that helps.

Periods start at all kinds of different times - I have a feeling there is a discussion about this in the Breastfeeding topic. Mine came back at 10 weeks the first time, which is more likely to happen if you are well rounded!!
Second time I had a mirena put in at my 6 week check so have had no periods at all even though ds is nearly 9 months!

Secondly, if you are worried about any kind of rash, it really has to be seen by someone, just cos rashes are so hard to describe. As a general rule I found my HV pretty useless but she was really good with nappy rash! THis might avoid a docs visit. Glad its not bothering her too much.

Whenever ds had an outbreak of nappy rash (sore or not) I used Metanium it's a bright yellow colour. You just need to spread a very thin layer of it on the affected area, worked liked magic.

I cut ds's feeds down to one a day at 11 mo. and my periods started within a month of that.
My ds never got nappy rashes. I put it down to being obsessive about changing his nappy really frequently...basically every couple of hours in the beginning. And always changed his nappy immediately after a poo. Also, I found that pampers nappies irritated him and switched to Tesco's brand. Finally, he once got a rash on his bottom/crotch area that was blotchy and my cousin said that it was probably not nappy rash (as nappy rash isn't usually blotchy), but rather more like athlete's foot. She suggested putting canestan on it and it worked like a miracle. In case you haven't noticed, canestan has exactly the same ingredients as athlete's foot and jock itch cream, but you can get it free on prescription if it's for you and you have a maternity certificate.....

Thanks for info - definitely think rash is related to teething but am going to get it checked out anyway.
