A friend just told me her little girl (17mths) was rushed into hospital because her temp was low! as in 35 deg! She was in for a few days and had all sorts of tests. She's fine, bit chesty. This panicked me cause my little fella , also 17mths , has often registered a low temp, 34/35 deg and I've just put it down to faulty reading thinking that he couldn't be hypothermic, warm to touch etc! should i be more alarmed when i see a low reading? I've tested my own and its also been low and i'm grand. We've got a tympanic (ear thermometer) Anyone got any opinions or experience??

I think some people have lower temps than others. Dh and ds both have an ave temp of 36; dd's is 37 and mine is 37.5. I have found this out over the years so i know that a temp of 39 is more serious in ds than in dd.

That said do you do more than one reading if you get a low or high one? i always take 3 and average out.

Hi Billyog, Yes I too get frequent low readings with my 2 yr old. I did speak to a doctor fairly recently about it and she dismissed it and said I should only be concerned about high temp. Unfortunately, I don't always trust one opinion so now you have raised this I am going to speak to a nurse at the surgery on mon and also a health visitor to check their advice on this subject. Perhaps you could do the same and we can keep posted and compare answers! By the way did you friends little girl have other symptoms as well as low temp which is why the rush to hospital?
