Urgent breast clinic referral?

I had a lump in my breast two weeks ago. GP said it felt like a hormonal moveable cyst so come back today after my period has been to check it.

She said she was referring me to breast clinic today because its still there but the notes on my appointment have worried me. She printed out a letter saying ‘suspected breast cancer referral’ and has given me a 2 week urgent appointment.

I know a 2 week wait is normal but is calling it ‘suspected breast cancer’ normal? I am in my early 20s and sick with worry.

Yes it is standard. I work in the breast clinic and it's to rule out cancer. Please try not to worry, over 90% of referrals we receive like this turn out not to be cancer

Please don't be worried using the term cancer is very normal for a 2 week wait appointment. In our trust they are even called cancer two week waits. lots of luck for your appointment

I too am in the same position and pretty much scared shitless. I literally find new aches and pains everyday and have convinced myself they are something sinister. Maybe we can send each other more positive thoughts

Standard. I was referred to the clinic and the specialist said it was about 99% sure it wasn't cancer. I was only referred because my mum had breast cancer and died from secondary brain tumour. Absolutely clear. Doctors tend to recognise different lump types
