Do you go A&E with suspected sprained/broken foot

Hi,

I dropped the recycle boxes on my foot last week and was in so much pain felt like I was going to pass out. Anyway pain eased up that day and around 4 days later foot has been really sore when I'm walking, and it's still really painful now.

Do I go to A&E? Although it may not be classed as an emergency. Or would you ring your local doctors?

Yes, go. Charge your phone, take a book.

Theunamedcat · 14/11/2021 22:12

I went to minor injuries they xrayed me there

Theworldisquiethere · 14/11/2021 22:13

A&E or a minor injuries unit if you’ve got one nearby

CatonMat · 14/11/2021 22:13

I wouldn't go.
I'd rest it and get an emergency appt tomorrow.

OverByYer · 14/11/2021 22:13

I’d go to your minor injury unit, it’s not A&E

Wisforwater · 14/11/2021 22:14

Your local dr can’t diagnose a fracture, you need an X-ray. But you’ll wait ages on a Sunday night- id go in the morning- 7.30 or 8am is generally the quickest time to be seen (a&e dr).

DamnShesaSexyChick · 14/11/2021 22:14

You need to go somewhere where you can get an x-ray, ideally minor injuries but they don’t all have the x-ray facilities open at the weekend.

1910username · 14/11/2021 22:14

Took my daughter to A&E, had X-ray and confined broken bone.

No one made me feel like I shouldn’t be there, so don’t worry about going.

You’ll need and X-ray and the GP won’t be able to help you with that.

YorkshireLawyer · 14/11/2021 22:15

I recently broke my foot though did nothing about it until a week after hobbling round in pain. Is it swollen/warm to the touch? I rang 111 and they made me an appt at A&E minor injuries for the same day where I had an X-ray and the fracture confirmed. Or you could try to see your GP and they might refer you for an X-ray if they suspect a break. Those options might avoid a long wait in A&E, but ultimately if you’re concerned there’s a possibility it is broken I don’t think you would be unreasonable to go to A&E.

Smartiepants79 · 14/11/2021 22:15

Phone 111 and get advice about which is the best place to go.
Where we live if you need an X-ray then it’s a waste of everyone’s time to go anywhere except a&e.
If you really think there might be a break then I suspect that’s where they’ll send you.

1910username · 14/11/2021 22:16

Sorry, failed to say it happened on a Sunday afternoon and I took her to A&E on the Monday morning.

Took 2 hours in all.

nocoolnamesleft · 14/11/2021 22:17

Yes, I would. But not in the evening for something that happened a few days ago. I'd go in the morning.

Jae132l · 14/11/2021 22:20

I'm thinking of perhaps going tomorrow afternoon as I've got to get my little one to school and then I'm in work till 1:30. I never thought of the minor injuries unit, I have a local walk in centre hopefully they offer the same sort of service. Thank you everybody.

Minor injuries.

lljkk · 14/11/2021 22:25

Hope it feels better soon. x

LIZS · 14/11/2021 22:26

111 will direct you to the least busy facility with xray, might be minor injuries or a and e. Soft tissue damage can be really painful though, ice it and move it gently.

Wedowonder · 14/11/2021 22:31

Your GP can arrange an x-ray for you. This would be the correct route.
It would save you waiting for hours in a & e.

Dartsplayer · 14/11/2021 22:31

We have a Minor Injuries Unit near us and they say you can get checked out/xrayed up to 2 weeks after an injury so definitely worth a visit to local MIU or A&E

DollyBantry · 14/11/2021 22:35

I turned my ankle last month and it was incredibly sore so the next day I went to A&E. I was told the wait was 12 hrs minimum and to go to Minor Injuries instead. I had 3 X-rays and a 4 hr wait but they were able to confirm my fracture, give me crutches and a boot (and a Covid scare 2 days later Hmm) and send me on my way.
Go and get it looked at. Take books and food, expect a long wait and you will be ok.

3luckystars · 14/11/2021 22:35

Yes 100%

dontletthemugglesgetyoudownn · 14/11/2021 23:01

What else do you do? Walk around with a broken foot?

3luckystars · 14/11/2021 23:02
Grin
megletthesecond · 14/11/2021 23:03

Yes. We don't have minor injuries here.
