BROKEN NOSE??!!!

My dd was playing chase with her cousins when she tripped and quite literally slammed her face into a wall. Her nose was pushed back wards - lots of bood and crying. We rushed her to A&E only to be told we have to wait 5 days for the swelling to subside before Xray-ing. So due to return to GP Friday for a second look. DD looks really terrible - swollen, black eyes and distorted nose but is playing happily as normal. Has anyone lese had a suspected broken nose or cartilage injury with such a little one? If so what happened? Have also wangled an appointment with Great Ormond St cranial facial surgeon next Weds just in case!

Oh the poor thing - it must be painful. My DS2 fell from the top of a climbing frame last summer aged 5 and landed nose first on the bottom rung, so much blood I nearly passed out in fear. A&E said same thing about waiting, not touching it. Felt awful next day as after a bath had washed away the dried blood we realised he had split his sacrum (think that's what it's called, bit of skin between nostrils). Saw maxillofacial doc who was happy to leave it to heal.

Controlled the pain with Calpol and Nurofen. He looked terrible (will try and post a pic on my profile in a minute)for a few days, really nasty bruising. Gave him arnica too. He had no treatment not even an xray and we were told only to take him back if he had probs with breathing through nose. Listen out for her snoring at night.

He has a small scar under his nose but his broken nose healed very well, stiil straight.Hope your DD is ok.

thanks dingdong... it's a bloody buggering shock when your 1 and only kiddy does this sort of thing for the 1st time! Ouch - splitting sacrum sounds dreadful - under dd's top lip is a total bruisey mess but no evidence of anything split thank god. i've given Cal and Nuro plus Arnica and am trying witch Hazel too. Good tip re snoring. So they left it to heal even though nose was broken - hmm maybe that will be our outcome?

Schmauskin - I've changed back to my usual name so that you can see the pic I've put on my profile. It ain't pretty and I'll take it off later. My poor baby . Check out his other pics too though and you'll see there was no lasting damage.

Dingdong/megalegs - yup she looks EXACTLY like your ds, plus huge black eyes now, as it's 2 days since it happened. Bridge of her nose does seem super flat so will wait and see how swelling goes next few days. my other pash is gardening too - wow - yours is beautiful! how do you do it with 4??!! (envy)
