Cradle cap in 3 year old???

I have just noticed a patch on ds's head, about the size of a teacup's bottom, that looks very much like cradle cap.
He is 3 in a couple of weeks and hasn't had cradle cap for ages so I was wondering what it might be.
Any ideas?

If it's cradle cap it'll come off easily if you just put some olive oil on it overnight then rub with a flannel.

If it doesn't come off and you're worried, go and check it out.

I've known older kids with cradle cap but I can't quite remember how old.

That's what I did earleir mincepiedermama, the olive oil, it's what I used when he was younger. I'm just surprised it could come at his age really I suppose and am hoping it's nothing more sinister!

DD1 had a little cradle cap at four, the pharamcist said they rarely have it after 5.

Ah, well at least I know it's possible that it could be that then, thanks goingfor3.
I'll try to treat it like I normally would and hold off the docs for now then.

My DS had cradle cap until he was at least 5 and a half and then one day I washed his hair and it was completely gone- although at this point he was used to wearing hats pretty much all the time!

My ds developed cradle cap for the fist time when he was nearly 2 (after ds2 was born - being a big brother is obviously stressful) - 5 years on he still has a touch now and again. Olive oil and a flannel or nit comb lift it out easily.

DS1 has always had it. He is now 2.5 and still has it, justthat it is covered with hair.

My ds is 4 now and he still has cradle cap. It is gradually improving but still there.

dd had it until about 4 or 5. At one point patches of her hair started coming out with the bits of crusty scalp. It was awful. I paniced and took her to the gp who tried two diff formulations before having something especially made up at the hospital.

Nothing worked, but she eventually outgrew it. The only thing that did help a bit was indian hair oil. If you have an ethnic grocers near you look for a brand called alma.

There is some sort of technical name for cradle cap and it can occur at any age.
