Poor mite can't even keep water down at the moment. Should I just leave him on an empty tummy or make some chicken broth and see if he can do that? Any other advice would be hugely appreciated.

Leave well alone, try offering water (sips) or weak squash, see what he fancies. Mine didnt really have anything much for a few days, still isn't eating much a week later.
Hope it passes quickly. Tis horrible

Sorry I didn't mean leave your child well alone, sounded a bit weird!!

Coolchristmasfairy · 11/12/2007 18:38

Not to worry - did get what you meant and is what I thought too - thank you.

Sorry to har yr child is ill Coolchristmasfairy. Can you (or someone else) get any of that rehydration powder from a chemist for you?

Instructions are on packet but you stir it in to approx 500 ml of cooled, boiled water and then give a few sips every 15 mins. DD had this a while ago and this was what doc recommended when she couldn't keep anything down. Hope feeling better soon.

Coolchristmasfairy · 11/12/2007 19:37

thank you for the advice - we will do small sips of rehydration powder and keep fingers crossed for tonight -

my ds has just got over gastric flu doctor said to offer ice pops as takes longer to dissolve and less likely to make stomach reject it as doesnt go in as quick

starchie foods to be offered mash, bread etc i found the only thing my ds would eat was small kiddies pizzas

hope ds feels better soon my ds had that for 8 days and now has croup bless him

milou2 · 12/12/2007 07:27

I agree with the sips of rehydration powder. I wouldn't challenge the stomach with anything greasy or meaty, sorry, no matter how delicious.

Mine have had a mild version of this and now have the cough.

mylittleponey · 12/12/2007 07:53

my ds has the throwing up bug today - so far bedroom plastered & sitting room - ahhh my eldest two had it yesterday & over the weekend. I had it monday. Just hoping the others don't get it.

Coolchristmasfairy · 12/12/2007 13:35

Thanks for all the advice and sympathies to all who are now living through this - yuck!
The rehydration powder worked a treat as DS seems fine today - ate breakfast and had a snack all of which have stayed down, so am keeping everything tightly crossed that he is okay. The trick now is just to get him rehydrated.

7-up or sprite or lemonade are good for re-hydrating.

Glad ds now feeling better Coolchristmasfairy! Hope you are recovering too!
