am due to go in to hospital next tuesday for the removal of dermoid cysts on ovaries but am housebound with my daughter who has chicken pox. this afternoon, however, i have been getting some sharp tingling sensations in my hands and the left hand side of abdomen.

is this shingles? i know it develops in to a rash eventually but what are initial symptoms?

You can't get shingles from chicken pox. You can only develop shingles if you have had chicken pox yourself. The virus lies dormant in the nerve endings and 'awakens' due to stress or if you are run down.

If it is shingles a rash will develop and you won't be able to have surgery next week. HTH

true...but...when I was a kid my dad developed shingles when we all developed cp, and I've heard of other similar occurrences.

Can't the cp virus in the close environment cause the dormant cp virus to reactivate as shingles?

My dh had shingles a few weeks ago. He said he felt tingling/itching/pins and needles,and then we saw the characteristic spots in a stripe on his torso.
