does anyone know anything about nails?

I was painting dds's nails this morning(she is 3.5)and i noticed 3 of her nails seem to be coming off.

The part of her nail nearest the cuticle is fine but half way down is seperate/lifting off her nail bed.

Looks horrible but doesn't seem to bother her at all. I will be taking her to the GP but just wondered if anyone had experience of this in themselves or their dc?

Many thanks

Something like this happened to DDs big toe nails when she was about 2/3 yrs old.

The HV referred us to the Paediatric Podiatrist as she had no idea but even they didn't really have an answer. She speculated that DD could have somehow damaged the nail eg. by dropping something on her foot. I wondered if it might have been a specific vitamin or mineral deficiency but this was never suggested.

Once it had grown out (as it appeared half way down the nail) that was the last we saw of it. Shes now 8 and its not happened since.

Bit of a mystery really.

Thanks Betty

Just worried it gets ripped off with it being her fingers. Will see HV or GP tomorrow hopefully anyway.

Just another thought -DS (3) is a thumb sucker at night and his sucking-thumb nail sometimes does this.

Does your DD suck her fingers to go to sleep or anything?

In fact I just realised you didn't say whether you were talking about finger or toe nails - I doubt she sucks her toe nails

No she doesn't Betty, fingers or toes lol.

What i am worried about is my mum has had a nail infection that the gp can't seem to get rid of so hope it's not that. My mum has ended up losing her nails one by one
