DS2 has had a tiny sharp lump in on the front of his neck since he was born he is now 13 months, the Dr said not to worry but bring him back if it chnged at all.
This past few days it has gone purpley and sticks out more.
Its moveable and hasn't seem to have gotten bigger.
I am going to take him back Monday.

Has anyone had ay experience of this at all?

You poor thing. No real words of wisdom, only if it's moveable that's good. Also does he have a cold/infection or anything at the moment? If it's a gland it might be even more swollen than normal. My son has a lump on the side of his neck, very pronounced, which becomes even more pronounced when he is sick as it's a gland. The gp assured me that all is fine and it's just him..

Hi thanks for some replys!

He is just getting over a cold so maybe thats it?
I worry loads about these things, i have a huge fear of Lukemia and Cancer so i do worry alot about lumps and bumps.

I am still worrying! DS doesn't seem worried. I have googled (i know i shouldn't) and i know there are alot of past threads about neck lumps on here but i can't find any who have been born with them and still had them a yr later!

DS1 had a large-ish lump on the side of his neck from birth. It turned out to be a cystic haegroma - completely benign cyst filled with lymphatic fluid. If it gets infected it can swell up (but this can also resolve the cyst completely in the long run - that's what happened with DS1).

Hope this helps - I know it can be frightening while you wait for a diagnosis, but it's very probably something non-scary.

Thanks, i am a huge worrier, i just get scared when dr's say its nothing to worry about, they said that about ds1's cough and he had cf!

He is such a boucny well little boy i can't see how anything will be wrong with him. If it's cyst will they remove it?

I think that surgery is one of the options - it depends on the size/location of the cyst, and whether it's causing the child and problems. DS1 had an MRI and it turned out that the cyst had wound its way around a big artery in the neck, so his surgeon decided to leave it. It got infected when DS1 was 2-and-a-half, and although that was a bit nasty at the time (admitted to hospital for IV antibiotics), when the infection died down the cyst disappeared completely. Apparently that's quite common.

My dd has had a lump in the side of her neck since birth too. It will swell when she is ill. It doesn't hurt her and causes no problems. The hospital have said they will remove it when she is older for cosmetic reasons but only if she decideds she wants it removed.
