Came into hospital on weds pm after spending most of Tuesday night crawling around the house in acute pain. By weds pm I thought I was dying.
Ultrasound scan yesterday showed 3 gallstones and inflammation around my gallbladder so had it all removed late yesterday.
What's the best way to recover and follow the right diet? I understand my body will digest fats in a different way now? WAnt to use this as an opportunity to sort myself out. My diet hasn't been great and this a wake up call but really unsure what I can / can't eat. The info from the team here in the hospital hasn't been brilliant either

When my DH had his gall bladder out the surgeon told him he could eat as normal. That said, he had a relatively healthy diet already and was fit and active - and was not the stereotypical gall bladder patient!
As you say, if you have an unhealthy lifestyle now is the time to start improving your diet by cutting out ultra processed foods and eating more fresh fruit and veg and maybe doing more exercise. DH is about 10 years on now and has not had any issues.

Thank you for replying. I will spend some time having a mooch about on google. Interesting that your husband had it but was relatively healthy. I like chocolate and cakes a bit too much I think

I had mine out a couple of years ago. Same situation as you - terrible pain !

My doctor said I could eat anything, the body digests fats differently but there isn't a special diet needed. Your liver still makes bile like it did before, but instead of the bile being stored in the gall bladder until needed, it just sort of drips into your gut and digests the fat which you've eaten. Something like that anyway !

I have been eating the same as I did before, never had a problem.

I had mine out in January 2020. Sorry to say I most definitely can't eat anything like a normal diet, still. Dairy and fat give me diahorrea. I live quite a restricted life.
