My throat feels like razors but just had covid weeks ago!

I’m feeling kind of screwed, I had COVID maybe over 3 weeks ago. Finished my isolation during COVID the cough and the loss of the smell were most difficult, cough was dry. But able to supress and just at night. Felt like I was improving..

Just last week the cough changed from dry to green mucus, and more persistent and chesty. Then I developed a sore throat, my throat is very red and whenever I swallow (saliva, drinks, foods) it feels like razor/glass. Not pleasant and very painful and since day I’m now getting pain weird feeling in adams apple area?

I’d phone my GP but I am so keen to avoid antibiotics because of 1. I’m prone to thrush, all good bacterial already killed. Antifungals no longer help and had allergic reaction last time. Along with oral thrush

I do have tyrozets - expirss this month! Never taken before, unsure if it would cause oral thrush or should it be fine? Does all 24 need to be finished as antibiotics?
Anything else out there and has anyone else experienced? How long to put up with this??

I had this after recovering from covid. Swallowing was extremely painful like you describe and I had swollen lymph nodes.

I tested positive for strep and needed antibiotics and steroids. After finishing that course of antibiotics the symptoms returned and I tested positive for glandular fever. I thought I could cope with the pain but it got to the point where I couldn't eat or drink. I needed a second course of stronger steroids, IV fluids and pain relief.

Tyrozets should help short term with the pain. Also, keep your bedroom humid whilst you sleep. Gargling with bicarb and water will help if the salt is stinging.

Oh damn, that’s awful. Do you remember the time frame for each? Currently this is my 2nd week of struggling to swallow. I’m eating through the pain but it is a struggle. With IV, I take it that was in hospital? Are you 100% better now? So scared of the antibiotics because of thrush issues! I do wonder if I have Strep! Just very red throat, looks maybe swollen but can’t see anything else!

Definitely seek medical help if you are struggling to swallow.

Yes I was in hospital, but thankfully only for a day. Both times the steroids worked their magic within a couple of days. I still felt lousy, but the pain in my throat was much better. From start to finish I was ill for about a month in total, but I would have recovered much quicker if I had seen a doctor sooner.

PS. Hope you get treatment and start to feel better soon! I completely sympathise....I never had a sore throat quite like it!

You need to be seen right away, op. You could have strep and that must be dealt with. Don't wait.

I’ve not had COVID but last week I developed a sore throat like how you are explaining, swollen glands and after 3 days it had disappeared, I didn’t have any other symptoms. DS 13 had a cold for one day, his nose running and sneezing, no other symptoms... totally fine the next day...now dd9 has a mix of the 2, and losing her voice, I think it’s developed into laryngitis as I’ve had that many times. All I’m saying is there are other bugs going around.

lana29 · 05/10/2021 21:24

Glad yourz went quick! With laryngitis can that cause pain near adams apple lower neck area? ny treatment for it?
