Dental charges paid band 1 but tooth still hurts

Hello
My tooth hurts, visited nhs dentist, told him it had been painful on/off
for year now worse. He said he could take it out or take antibiotics. Charged me band 1. That was a week ago tooth still painful

Question, I have read the nhs dental charges page but unclear. I paid the approx 25 pounds for band 1 but as the same tooth hurts, do I just top up next time to band 2 or pay the full/approx amount of 65 pounds on top of my approx 24 pounds.

You top up but I'm sure it has to be done within a certain timeframe, not sure what it is though

It will depend whether you were seen as a band 1 or band 1 urgent. If you were given a treatment plan with a band 2 charge on it it would continue to be a band 2 charge minus the band 1 but a band 1 urgent is usually an emergency appointment used when someone is pain to assess and dress a tooth, prescribe antibiotics in case of an infection, drain an abscess etc.
A band 1 urgent cannot be incorporated into a band 2 so if you returned for treatment after a band 1 urgent you would pay a whole band 2. You'll have to ask your practice what band you were seen under.
The whole system is a pile of really difficult to work with and NHS dentists have not been given their targets for the next 6 months which start in 2 days. Value any NHS dental care you're getting at the moment because the is about to hit the fan.

thank you - it was not an urgent appt so i will ask them to top up. but they are crooks as they tried to double charge my mum a few years ago until i got on the phone and told them must should not have paid a band 2 for an xray but band one and NFA

just the painful area. Dentist was running 35 mins late and spent 4/5 mins with him

Update
Rang the crooks aka dentist and told them needed tooth out visited a couple of days ago, charged band 1. I asked would it be a band 2 payment ot top up. As expected the the front desk crook said as the dentist offered to take out the tooth the other day it is band 2. I did not take it lying down and asked how many people come in with a tooth ache for the first time and what percentage go for the tooth out, therefore in my judgement it should be a top up.

The crook agreed and said, her mistake should be a top up

ps- its not the first time they have done this as they over-charged my sibling and when my day rang they said it was a "mistake"

Band 2 should also included a check up and any other further treatment(ie gum treatment if necessary/fillings). If they took the tooth out at the first appt and didn’t do a check up they should only really charge band 1. It’s a tricky one.

Update - got the tooth out becuse we'd challenged them they said the dentist kept it opn ie band one charge moved to 2, so paid another 40 odd pounds to make it around 65 ie band two.
