Echinacea for 5 month old and BF mum?

I have heard contradicting info about whether I (BF mum) can take Echinacea for my cold and whether I can give it to my 5 month DD to help with her cold and cough.

The health shop I went into said no on both accounts, but my friend has a book by the Natural Baby Guru (Janet Balaskas) which says you can take it if you're BF to help a baby with a cold (am assuming it would help me too).

Not asure what to do. Anyone used Echinacea on their baby/selves upon advice from a herbalist?

I looked it up on Kellymom and it said OK to take when bfing, so I'm going to try it. My DS is 14 mo though so am less worried about poss effects.
