Silent reflux - does medication exist?

I think my 9 week old has silent(ish) reflux. Some vomiting - more than a normal baby - but not enough to lose weight. Otherwise all reflux symptoms present ie arching back, pained crying during and after feeding, wet burps, hiccups, likes to be held straight etc.

We have tried baby gaviscon which killed the acid crying but created a host of new problems - trapped wind, constipation, not eating etc.

My GP is sympathetic but says that all the other medication is only recommended when the baby is actually losing weight.

Is this true? - can anyone name the meds they use as I think my GP would prescribe if she knew of other similar useage.

gaviscon didn't agree with my DS
he has silent reflux and had 2 meds
ranitadine - to neutralise the acid
domperidone - to move the milk through his gut more quickly

he never lost weight - he was a comfort feeder and he was prescribed the meds

It could also be a cows milk protein intolerance which my DS2 (now 10 months) has. He was (mis)diagnosed with reflux at 10 weeks but we endured months of misery until I finally gave up dairy at 4 and half months (I was BF); he was literally a changed baby within 10 days (and I don't say that lightly. He's on special formula now until he's 2 but it is something he will grow out of.

My DD had silent reflux. GP prescribed gaviscon but wouldn't prescibe anything else until she'd been seen by paeds at the hospital. (My DH is a GP and says he would do the same)

She never actually lost weight (breast fed) but did get to the point where she stopped feeding (at which point she was seen urgently by the hospital) The paeds prescribed Ranitidine in addition to Gaviscon and she improved amazingly.

we had similar problems using Gaviscon our GP also prescibed Lactose too as my DD got really constipated and windy.

It took us a few week to get the right balance between them but just gradually reduced and increases both the gaviscon and the lactose accordingly until we had the balance of both IYKWIM. HTH
