Worried follow up chest xray

I'm freaking out . I went to a&e in July as my heart was all over the place . I was on day 12 of covid . I was told my heart was in AF lasted 1 hour. So I had a chest xray and echo. I was told everything fine apart from mitral regurgitation but not to worry about it . But I get a call today asking me to have another chest xray as requested by the radiologist in July. The secretary says this happens all the time and not to worry. All she can see is repeat in 6-8 weeks . Why would I not be told anything before now after being told everything is normal. I never had a cough or lung issues with covid . I already have terrible anxiety so now even more anxious. I've never smoked in my life.

Sounds routine to check lungs have cleared.

RogueV · 20/09/2021 16:28

It’s routine.
Your chest X-ray has been reported on, they will probably have seen some infection and to make sure that it has cleared.

Hi ladies thanks for reply. As I said I did not have any chest or lung infection from covid I was never given antibiotics I was told everything OK. All I was told was the atrial fibrillation was caused by covid and hopefully it dosent happen again . I had another attack the other night but only very short. I just feel no one has explained anything. Just a call from a clerk 2 months later saying I've to get repeat xray .

I've heard this happen a lot with covid. I think they are just following up, as covid can damage the lungs but everyone I who I know who have had the follow up X-ray it has been clear or shown to be improving

Mollylolly · 20/09/2021 16:58

It's just I never had any chest infection or lungs or breathing issues with covid . I was never given a antibiotic I was told all normal. I'm so confused.

I have terrible health anxiety so as you can imagine I'm even worse now.

Could you not call them back up and explain your anxiety and just say you would like to know the reason for the follow up. Surely they should tell you? I have health anxiety too and recently had a chest x ray so I can imagine how I would feel if someone called me saying that!!

Mollylolly · 20/09/2021 19:51

Hi thanks for reply . My gp calling tomorrow. Everyone telling if it wasn't anything serious they wouldn't wait 8 weeks to call you back. The fact no one explains anything leaves me in a state.

It's very unlikely they would X-ray you for AF. That's fine by ecg ekg as my husband has it. It's much more likely that they are just following up on long term side effects. I know three people that were hospitalised for brief periods and all had X-rays at the time and then a few months after wards. All second xrays were fine.

sweetfairy · 20/09/2021 21:00

As a health anxiety sufferer myself, I totally understand how anxious you must be Thanks

Mollylolly · 20/09/2021 21:24

Thanks for your replies I really appreciate it . Fantastaballs can I ask did the people you know have lung or chest issues I never did even though I had covid .

I was in hospital with covid and when discharged they told me (and others who were on the ward) I would get a follow up xray so it sounds like it's common.

Also if there was something suspicious on your last xray they would have done a CT scan.

Mollylolly · 21/09/2021 15:11

Hi MossyBottom I hope you are feeling better after having covid . Did you have breathing or lung issues? I didn't just my heart rate went a bit crazy. Have you had your xray?
