Anyone know how long it should take for periods to return? I've just had ds3 so should know but I can't really remember except it seems like it's a long time now without one.

DS3 is 10 weeks old. Stopped bleeding after about 3 weeks fully. In between, I've had a couple of occasions where I've woken up having bled and it's definitely been period-like but then it's stopped about an hour later. This has happened twice but so far no proper - 4-5 day one.

Is this normal?? Waiting to go back on the pill so it's getting rather annoying!!!

It varies, but mine took 13 months. I hope you don't have to wait that long though

I'm not BF by the way - doesn't that make a difference?

Yes, that definitely makes a difference. I didn't get my period back until DD2 was almost a year old when I was breastfeeding. I'm trying to remember how long it took the first time. It was quite a while - definitely longer than 10 weeks I think. Can't you go on the pill anyway?

They came back with a vengeance when they did though, secur. I've had more in the last 2.5 years than in the last 30 put together, and that's no exaggeration.

Breast feeding can make a difference, but everybody is different. Why can't you go back onto the pill before they start again, gobbledigook? As far as I remember, you don't have to wait until day 1, you can start any time although you'd have to wait for a month before it became effective.

Gobbledigook · 10/11/2004 14:28

KATG/WWB - is that right? I always thought it had to be started on day one of period but then I've not read the leaflet or anything so maybe it's just how I did it before but you can start anyway. I'll look into that as I hate condoms

It's been a fair while since I took the pill, but I do seem to remember that you can start it any time, but need to use extra precautions for the first month. Go and have a word with your GP, see what s/he thinks.

Gobbledigook · 10/11/2004 16:06

Thanks, will do. I haven't been because I assumed I had to wait for AF to come back but I'll check it out now.

my gp said it fine to go on the pill asap (as long as not bf) as it helps get your periods back on track so i did. but as usual just to use other precautions for the 1st 7 days hth xxxx
